looking for ideas for pedals and other items within the cockpit.

what gauges, idiot lights and other items have you got in your FED

fabricated items rather than bought re pedals, living in the UK don't have the same access to supliers and Junkyards

Keep it simple.
Going down the track you really need no gauges, you will not want to look down.

If you will be driving to and from the pits you will want a temp gauge, RPM is nice but not really needed, oil pressure is not needed if you have a low oil pressure light.

I have all three gauges because I did not know better, but probable would have put them in just for the looks.

So in the picture below there is oil pressure, rpm, temp. switches are fan, water pump, ignition, fuel pump (this is an older picture, no more fuel pump as it mechanical injection now)

On the air scoop I had shift and low oil pressure lights.

On the steering wheel is air shift and trans brake.

I have an oil pressure gauge on the back of the motor.  My shift light is on the back of the injector (line of sight).  Inside the car, i have a fire bottle activation knob, a mag kill, a starter button, and a fuel push/pull.  Throttle pedal is a simple bottom pivot pedal.  No left side pedal.  FEDs should have hand brakes.

As we are racing vintage style, we have chosen old Sun gauges, and really want to hide the modern stuff.
The space are tight, but works. hand brake on the right, shifter on the left.

As we are racing vintage style, we have chosen old Sun gauges, and really want to hide the modern stuff.
The space are tight, but works. hand brake on the right, shifter on the left.

Made a power supply out of a 5,2volt cigarette  lighter power for a Sony product;) As a TV repair-man I must be able to do el. work;)
This was for the Sun box as it was for a magneto set-up. The tach was a Sun Greenline. As the rest was Blue-lines I managed to get hold of a NOS Blue-line half-sweep!!:):):)

I run the smallest odyssey battery (pc310) in my car for the transbrake, shifter, shift light.  I start off of a battery pack i plug in.

Question, I`ve got a Peak battery jump  starter for use in the winter (450 amp 900 cranking amp). Thought about gutting it to use the light weight battery. Bad idea ? Sorry if I`m hi-jacking this thread.

My only input is some of these jump start battery operate at higher voltages and can fry other electronics you might have in the dragster (data recorders etc.)

The solution is to have a separate circuits, one battery for operating the inboard equipment and one separate starter circuit (with battery in a starter trolley). Hope this makes any sense:)?

One of my top priorities when designing my interior was not to get hurt when things go wrong.

 Severe tire shake and/or less than perfect track conditions can slam your feet around with such force you can cut or bruise your limbs, not to mention crashing the car.

 I have a small console between my legs made from sheet aluminum, and I welded 1.5 inch sides on it to give my feet a little cushion.


 
My switches and starter button are on the left hand side, Dzuz fastened for easy removal and servicing. the empty hole left in the panel under steering wheel contained the shift light at first but now has a temp gauge sitting there. I have no tach and the oil press gauge is on the engine block beside the ignition. shift light is on the back of the carb.

Neil and Parks makes a bracket so you can use a battery from a Milwalkie drill to power your stuff . Very trick piece

Gauges, hee hee! I have never read the tach on any part of any run, funny how you focus on where you're going if you're getting there quickly??? Tunnel vision is vertical as well as horizontal. My tach is just below eye level.
Just keep the same amount of stuff on the right
as there is on the left. Seeing straight ahead is highly overrated....

I actually looked at my oil pressure gauge once yesterday ( going thru the lights ).  Most of the time, it's Stab & Steer.  Shift lights are wonderful things.
