Helmet and facemask
« on: December 05, 2014, 01:28:35 AM »
Am i allowed to use 3/4 helmet and a facemask in races? And if, where do i buy a good helmet and mask?

National rules says i can use helmets with one of the following approvals:
(Dont mind the norwegian text between the (), its just saying its not valid in international races after that year.)

FIA 8860-2004
FIA 8860-2010
B.S.I. BS 6658-85 type A/FR (GB) (Ikke gyldig i internasjonale løp etter 2013)*.
E22 (European Economic Commission) (E-merket) Denne standarden vil utgå etter 2015
SFI 31.1. (Ikke gyldig i internasjonale løp etter 2018)*.
SFI 31.1 A. (Ikke gyldig i internasjonale løp etter 2018)*.
SFI 31.2 A. (Ikke gyldig i internasjonale løp etter 2018)*.
Snell SA 2000 (USA) (Ikke gyldig i internasjonale løp etter 2014)*.
Snell SA 2005 (USA) (Ikke gyldig i internasjonale løp etter 2018)*.
Snell SA 2010 (USA)
Snell SAH 2010 (USA)

Not sure if any of the above applies to 3/4 helmets.

If you're going to protect your head, don't go cheap.

Of every piece of safety gear required to have a SFI tag on it , the facemask and goggles do not have SFI tags and is the primary reason they are not alowed, No company is willing to go thru the certifacation ($$$$$) process for such a low volume of sales.  The other issue with the masks is that the extra bulk in the forehead area raises the helmet up above the head(big gap) and the chin strap becomes too short. The only fix is to peal the padding back and sand away some of the foam inside the helmet-- That in turn is modifying the helmet and voids the cert. OK to do for Cacklefest but not for racing.

Outlaw strips can get away with them, but I cannot recomend them to customers running sanctiond events. One guy I know has both setups and runs the mask and the non-sanctiond events

Stian Sorlie motorsport is the New deler for Simpson in Norway, he is almost your neigbor located in Spyderberg.
You can cheek out the prices there before you order.  He had great prices before on helmets and the Hans device.
