Those guys were really saving weight
We made a nice fitted floor for our worm car and have a .125 thick seat bottom that was formed a little before we used a Creafoam kit to make molded custom insert--It turned out very comfortable--I was a little surprised.
I think Main trouble with Worm cars are that some customers are not racers / car builders / experienced--- and see them like a Factory Five Cobra sort of kit.
I think the overall quality of "Nostalgia" cars ( include gassers/ rods/ A's / etc ) I have seen at meets this year as far as welding / basic engineeering / and safety has been scarey---I have seen many a ride I would not get out of the Electric Chair to pilot.
So..overall--a Worm or S&W etc is no better than the finishers experience IMO.
I am stoked that so many cars are turning out--and it is amazing how many are being built right this minute--Gassers are coming out of the woodwork and next years fields will be Big in our area but like I said--some of the TV copy cat cut / weld / build engineering is downright horrible looking.
The No Tech Run What Ya Brung is a big lure and TV makes folks think it is easy--I really appreciate that Roo is just pointing out as delicate as he can that going real fast in a dragster is no place for the " Buy a Harbor Freight Tig and make a car crowd"
It is serious business that needs to be treated as such!!!
No help that we get so many "opinions ' from different inspectors and tech guys at every track---THAT is where Roo and other real dedicated pros come in--See them FIRST before you make a mess out of your kit or wallet-- or hurt yourself.
Just because you have scissors does not mean you can be a barber.
