Front Engine Dragsters / Chassis up dates for 2.4 D and 2.2D
« on: March 20, 2024, 12:06:26 PM »
I am finally trying once again to put this FED together. It was recently certed for 2.4D 7.99-6.00 . It seems like some stuff over the years has been missed and or overlooked. such as an anti pion rotation bracket/device on the rearend. Also there are no bars in the floor area between the rear end up rights and the engine plate uprights. All the cars I have looked at have these from N/TF down to 7.50 cars. This is an older Dave Uyehara car he welded up for me ( his old Jr. Fuel car from early 90's) .  I have the latest and greatest SFI 2.2D and 2.4 D spec books. I think I have the pinion rotation device options figured out but the v bars in the floor I find nothing mentioned , not even in the TF specs (2.2D). Any one out their able to point me to the written specs on these floor bars ? I would call Dave Uyehara but he is retired and sold the shop.

Drag Racing / Norm Wheeldon Passes
« on: February 03, 2024, 10:01:04 AM »
I got the news the other night that Norm Wheeldon died . Norm was well known in England for his "Two Much" FED powered by twin blown alky SBC's. For many years he would come to the states and meet me at the March meet in Bakersfield. He was a welder fabricator and had a good career with March Chassis and also The F1 team of Benetton racing. In his younger days he ran a roadster class at the drags ( 3.8 six jaguar power) with a great deal of success. Later with a blown sbc RED he managed to secure the European T/A title . Not only did he build his own two much twin engine car but he also built a single version for Nigel and James Charman to run at the Nostalgia events at Santa Pod raceway . His cars were extremely well crafted and detailed in the build . I enjoyed spending time with Norm many times at the March Meet and then also on his home turf at Santa Pod. I will miss him greatly.

Front Engine Dragsters / Clutch can blow back struts

Changing out the after market PG trans for Lenco two spd and clutch. Any of you guys have good pix of how the blow back struts were done on your chassis ? I know there are 16 ways to skin a cat and the cat is not fond of any of them , at the same time I don't want to reinvent the wheel is some one has a good  one that rolls well .

Drag Racing / Sacramento finally closing
« on: November 29, 2023, 08:19:22 AM »
After several years of doom and gloom announcements about closing Sacramento Raceway , it appears it is a reality. A buddy of mine sent me a clip off of Facebook showing the formal announcement. Looks like K-rails and containment walls and stands are going away etc. Certainly and End of an Era.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: compression and bore increase hp gain?
« on: November 09, 2023, 03:15:42 AM »
I would go to the .060 overbore of 4.310 , use your 4.250 crank with the longest rods you can hang on it and have a fairly short pin height . Compression is good for alcohol  but you do reach a point where the dome to get it starts plying xxxx with air flow and flame front. 13.5:1 sounds like a good place to start. Also if I remember right the 4.310 bore with a 4.250 stroke is 496 cu in. not 511.  Put it together and have fun. Later on if you want more put the 4.5" crank in for alot more grunt but don't buzz it past 7500-7800 max

What is bore and stroke currently? I got lost following the numbers in your post. Also is this thing Blown Alky currently or just N/A? Other thing to consider is what is your realistic comfort zone on Max RPM on a run? Bore and stroke changes do make a difference on shape of power curve as does cam timing and head flow.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Chassis - paint, powdercoat or POR?
« on: September 30, 2023, 10:59:53 AM »
Hi Paul, what brand of Cold Blue/Tool black did you use ? Through the years I have used two different ones from Brownells supply and one generic tool black bought on line . The Brownells Oxfo blue seemed to work the best but I am always looking for better.

That is kinda telling me a two speed lenco with Rev should fit with the 8 5/8" can without drama. Thank you Paul

How much room do I need from axle centerline (9"ford) to backside of engine plate to fit an 8 5/8" can with CS-1+reverser and still install and remove it without moving engine in the process ?
