Front Engine Dragsters / moving front end weight foward more
« on: July 02, 2024, 10:33:21 PM »
A big part of my front end wight come from battery and being in front of axle even more so. With few other changes I am making I can move battery foward 7". Which should make it feel like more weight. If so I should have room to remove some actual weight with wheels, aluminum spindles or lighter battery and car think it has same weight as when battery was back.

Question anyone have idea how much more effective? What will 45 lbs 7 farthure from front axle act like weight wise?

While at it fron canards can be moved some too and if know how to figure effective down force due to leveraging down farthure out? Tell me how much and if can how you arrived at it.

Well opened new can orf worms. New nose allows me to move battery forward 7",fuel tank 6" while moveing new rack and pinion to in front of axle. Tried 6" arms instead of 5". The steering inout take lot more to get same movement at outer rim,.I mean 22* or so and turning raidus it lot bigger or not near as sharp. Thinking 6 too much. going back to 5" or max 5.5".
Welde steering shaft at all  steering knuckles. Most had one side welded and molted other. the bolts allowed too much slop in shaft. One was nothing but when you have 4 it b ecomes 5 or 6* at steering wheel with before actutal moving front end. Add that to fact dumbbutt adding the rackn pinion actually moved bolt hole 3/4 back on steering arm and made it stupid quick..

Saince can not get hard answer on how much effect moving b attery 7" will give I have set of scales on the way. Will get answer to few other question I came up woith about weight and effectiveness due to location. In theory moveing 45 lbs dbl distance from front axle should make 45 battery seem like lot more to chassis. If s will alow me to remove some weight w/o going airborn.

Finished the mold for new nose piece. Taking advantage of the 40 in overhang. Most dragsters aerew limited to 30. I figure the little extra will screw with competition and is worht about ,007. Moving steering rack and battery fowars 7" both and moving rack n pinion to front of axle which allows fuel tanl to move 40 lbs foward 7" the new nose design allows battery to be moved. Not sure how much front wheel wight will chnage but going to find out, Figure to sit battery up soi can move back at any time.

just finished the new wheel and mounts for crankt trigger install on car. Next up is conversion to drop in jets.

Front Engine Dragsters / winter upgrades?
« on: January 29, 2024, 08:55:11 PM »
So what are you doing to upgrade racing program this winter?

With the supposed rash of leaks, I had last year that caused me to be shut off online. One changing the spray bar in the intake plenum to insure can not get fuel on butterfly's which caused 4 shutdowns before catching what was being called a leak. New fitting for most all of car. Adding pit cooler for transmission and oil. Rewire to clean up and simplify in case of failure should be easier to correct. Making few changes to the cockpit as far as switches(less to do the same job) and hopefully, new belts will be easier to self-adjust. As always looking for places to cut weight down. New bigger fuel cell not one of them but hopefully get me back to pits. New pushbar for 4 wheeler in case do not make it back.,LOL  New design zoomies are being finished now. (big weight loss). New intake design and bigger pistons will come a little later this year after get a handle on what I have so as to know the difference they hopefully make. Going up .125" bore and adding about 2,5 to 3:1 compression. so only couple things here.

On A/Fue;l car we have a sleeve sitting over upright and the blowback bolted to two tabes welded to it. I pull two quick  pins and rotate to the side pull the clutch.

I can't say I have seen a glide with a rear mount in any drag race car. Not saying nobody does it just have never seen and that means huge percentage do not have
I am talking mostly door cars and rear engine dragsters. WIth the transmission being in the cockpit on FED and that only part with real spec it probably has less flex than any other style car. That said the front of the motor is in an area with a good amount of flex, most further out about still flexs.

Anohter thing IMO is why carry extra weight that is technically doing nothing beneficial. Just my 2 cent and probably over priced.

Spud Miller's Cave / down nozzles with MFI
« on: December 23, 2023, 11:08:53 AM »
While I know not allowed in nostalgia competition . Wondering if anyone here has run down nozzle with MFI(no blower)?

Asking because have been wanting to install on my fed.Heads are already setup for it. Plus thinking with alky running thru lines and oil running over outside it should have minor cooling effect on oil temp. The fact it will have a lot of folks wondering where fuel is going to engine has nothing to do with it.LOL

So anyone treid down nozzle with mfi system?

Watch any big money bracket race and you will see guys leaning foward a foot or more to get better view of opponent. All claim not problem since they can see better. Wonder how many change mind after being bounced around at 140 or150 mph?
