Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Frame recert.
« on: April 25, 2014, 07:10:00 PM »
we just had our car NHRA re-certed 1 week ago with no problems at all, car built in 2008.

locally we have both NHRA and IHRA tracks and it has always been the common rule for us that IHRA WILL accept NHRA but not the other way around.

i have no insight on using a FH or what times it might run but you could always win a few bucks with it doing this at parties......

Nice hotrod  8)! A neighbor, who shall remain nameless, ran off a sample of afore mentioned "paint stripper" a few months ago. It proofed at 155 and I believe was as caustic as paint stripper. I grew up drinking the stuff but this was the worst ever.  :o

thanks for the comment. Yeah iv had a few different friends try making it in varies ways, some drinkable, some definitely not.
I almost forgot a little shameful plug for our team and sponsers, here is a little video I threw together at the end of last season. enjoy and share if you like,

That's pretty cool about the name.
I've never tried true moonshine but I've always heard its a great paint stripper.  :o

well im gonna assume by your screen name that we may be on opposite sides of the Continent but if we every do happen to cross paths feel free to swing by the pit after racing. To beat the legal stuff i can neither CONFIRM nor deny that there may or may not be some 'shine' in the trailer

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Battery Placement on a FED
« on: February 23, 2014, 03:01:37 PM »
I think the rules are saying...no push starts. Start batteries can be on a cart, ATV or whatever
you towed the car to the staging lanes with.

not entirely true, i know for nhra's top dragster you must have an onboard starter, a block or mid plate mounted starter. What the rules are for is to try and get rid of blower starters and the time it takes to use them. Put them on, prime, start ( hopefully only once) remove and get the vehicle holding starter and battery pack out of the way. The whole process takes to long for top dragster or top sportsman, which i find weird cause its alright if a AA/PM wants to run in comp and use a blower starter.

Im sure you can run along the edge of the rules if you want and have a block mounted starter BUT have the battery pack on your tow vehicle like AF150 sorta mentioned. But im also sure if your losing opponent was to raise enough fuse during his lose it would become more of a problem then its worth to carry the extra few pounds for a battery

Thanks for the comments guys, yea the car was built in a new high chair style, 225'
The "mountain brew" was from the original owner and of course is a play on words from mountain dew the soft drink but with a wink to the process of moon shine.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Rules on the seat pan in an FED?
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:21:31 PM »
Hi All-

I was wondering if there are any rules that state the seat pan needs to be mounted completely flush with the frame rails? The reason I ask is because with the layout of my dragster, my calves rest on the axle, rather than the crook of my knee, which complicates mounting pedals. What I was hoping to do is move the seat bottom forward 4 inches. This would put me in a slightly more reclining position, but my legs would line up correctly. The top of the seat would still be flush to the top rail, and the bottom would still be flush to the bottom rail at the sides, just not the rear.

If this is not allowed, then perhaps I can build an aluminum insert welded inside the seat pan that will accomplish the same thing.

Thanks for your time,
Dean

as the other guy mentioned what you are wanting to do is tottaly fine. I would only suggest that you might wanna use some small tube or round stock , 3/8-1/2 and place it to go from the frame to where the seat will be, just to give it some bracing in filling in the gap you will create from moving the seat away from the frame rail. it will help keep the drus holes from elongating due to being the only thing holding the seat in postion during accel-deceleration

its a 225'' car built from RH Racecars up here in canada, which also happens to be my place of employment (im very lucky). Car has a 526 KB/Olds with a 14-71 and a glide. So far for us we have gone a best of 7.12 @196. with more in it for this up coming season. Iv always liked these cars and era even from a very early age, so my father has always said i got an old soul.
