Doing my daily FED.org check, I come across this thread and have to throw my two cents in. As Van mentioned above, we built the Nightmare Dragster in his backyard a few years ago. The entire car is built overkill down to every tube being the heavier wall then NHRA demands. At this time we are running a 532 c.i. 385 series on blown alcohol with basically bone stock aluminum Cobrajet heads, very little work on them. Two Sundays ago, 9-11, we took it to Fontana for a test and tune. We ran a 7.45 @ 180.09 and a 7.47 @181.18. To compare the numbers mentioned earlier in this thread the 60' is 1.10, 1/8 mile is 4.75 @146.48. Our Facebook link is below with video of the second run. The Ford will haul the mail.

Front Engine Dragsters / Famoso Raceway Tower Fire
« on: January 06, 2016, 09:23:07 AM »
Received many messages on my facebook page that the tower and announcer booth at Famoso Raceway were burnt pretty bad early this morning. The Famoso Raceway facebook page says they will be okay by the March Meet. Hope no one was hurt and everything will be rebuilt in time.

In the early 1980s I drove then later owned an a/fuel dragster that was very well known under the original team. We were changing the rear end in the car and were astonished when we saw the housing was drilled with countless 1" to 2" holes and then covered in fiberglass. No wonder the car was originally around 900 lbs.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Pinion height.

Anyone ever use a dana 60? or is it just an expense thing?
Have to pull the entire RE to do gear change and also heavy

I built my car using a Dana 60     It's without question the strongest, cheapest rear to put in anything. I have easily changed gear sets without removing it, in fact it was very easy. I do not find it uncomfortable at all. Heavy yes, I do have a Mag housing but I did not use it. If I build another car it will have a Dana 60
Here is the pic of how easy it is to change gears in the Dana 60

Front Engine Dragsters / Shut Down Etiquette
« on: November 05, 2014, 04:15:36 PM »
I re-licensed after a 30 year break and I was wondering what the shut down etiquette is. I have heard several different explanations on who exits the track first. Is there a correct way, right lane, left lane, winner, loser, whoever is out front after the chute is out?

I will be there Saturday only, unfortunately as a spectator. Good luck to those of you racing. :'(

Roo Man's Room / Re: How do i know the cage will fit my size?
« on: June 12, 2014, 01:32:08 PM »
Guys
This is towards Andrew's comment. I would think it would only be half of the 7" between your helmet and roll cage. Gotta consider half that 7" is from the waist down. There is also the leg to body length ratio, can be same height with long or short legs. I'm 6'6" with a car built to my size. A friend about 6'2" has 5" between helmet and cage. As they say results can vary. Won't really know until you hop in.

Love the close up.

Have fun Glenn. That first time out is always worth the wait, especially when it is successful.

Roo Man's Room / Re: Anti-rotation device ?

Here is a couple pics of how we did our anti-rotation device. We doubled ours on the front and back of the housing. On the front side we incorporated it into the drive line cover.

Roo Man's Room / Re: wheelie bars
« on: February 06, 2014, 07:16:34 PM »
We chose to go with single top bar and two on the bottom with a wide stance at the wheels. The tabs on the chassis are 1/4" thick with 3/8" grade 8 bolts, bars are  1 1/4" .065. Very stout and believe me we use them every pass, never had any issues with this set up.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Cockpit. Bracing

We updated our chassis during the build, it is certified to 5.0. The K brace infront of the rearend and a removable brace next to the rearend.
