Front Engine Dragsters / Tunnel ram bird catcher sbc set up.
« on: December 26, 2015, 07:28:21 AM »
I am looking to add a Enderle bird catcher and a tunnel ram on alcohol to my small block chevy 355. I have Diamond pistons, ultra light Eagle crank and rods,  will have Afr heads on it also. What fuel pump do I need, an 80A?, and how do I run the water pump if the cam drives the fuel pump? Can I run this set up on gas? How hard is it to tune? Just feelin around to see if I want to make the invesment or stay with a carburetor.  Would a bird or bug be better? I like the looks of the bird. Thanks  Merry Christmas :)

Front Engine Dragsters / Help need a 6.40 for license
« on: August 01, 2015, 03:01:47 PM »
I was wandering how to drop a couple of tenths on an eighth mile pass. I need a 6.40 or quicker in the 1/8th for my last 2 license runs and I can only muster a 6.52. I am going to upgrade this winter but anyone know any tricks to gain a couple of tenths.  I ran a 1.42 60',  I ran a 10.27 @ 127mph in the quarter mile.   I thought about pulling  out the 16lbs of fire  system and going on a diet.   Just thought I wolud ask. Proly should wait till I have more power next year. It  is an old worn out 327, dart iron eagle heads,  850 holley,  with about 700 laps in my asphalt, modified on it.

I just wanted to verify how much toe I need to put in my new fed. I have been driving circle track for 20 years and I am used to 1/8" toe out. So 1/8" toe in just sounds funny. Anyone. And where is a good place to install a fire system, way out front or behind the seat (pros and cons)? ??? Thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / How to paint body
« on: December 20, 2014, 06:53:00 AM »
When I get my body painted, I was wondering what works best with aluminum. Should I get it powder coated. If regular paint do you paint where the tabs come together lighter. Do you just paint the outside of the body. Just curious what will last the best.  The inside of my old car was not painted.   Whats price range would a  cobalt blue shorty be with an orange stripe down the middle.  Any ideas I know price is suggestive and varies on location.  I just want a heads up if I get a quote on what is way to much or a good deal. Thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / Where do you mount nozzles for fire system
« on: December 19, 2014, 02:06:36 PM »
Was wondering what way to go on a fire system and where to mount the nozzles for a fed. What do you guys recommend , This is for a sbc bracket fed on gas but hope to be going to alcohol injected some day. Do you mount the spray nozzles by your feet and tranny or in front of the motor so it blows back on the engine? Should I use Halon? Thanks :D Merry Christmas to all

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Car done truck died

Yeah I don't think I will be buying new but, I appreciate your guys input. I never thought of a van but sounds like it would get the job done.    I sounds like a 3/4 ton is the way to go. Thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / Car done truck died
« on: October 18, 2014, 08:02:59 AM »
I have a 24' enclosed trailer with my fed in it and my truck is dying. Any suggestions on trucks new versus used or 1/2 ton versus 3/4 ton.  I don't want to spend a zillion dollars if I don't have to. Will the new 1/2 tons pull a 24' trailer good. I will be going 200+  miles sometimes.  Everthing I see is 40,000+. I bought my old truck new in 1996 for 19,000. Why are truck prices so rediculous now.  As long as it is made in the USA I would buy it.  Thanks

Thanks for all your guys input on my question. I finally did manage to drill through the shaft. After I got through the hardened outside the middle drilled nice.  Thanks again I have found a wealth of knowledge here.

Thanks you guys are great help on my steering box and coupler questions. What size battery cable should I run from the battery to the electronics and starter. I always used a 1 on my circle track cars. Can I get away with a 2 gauge? What do you recommend. Small block bracket car, with high compression, gear reduction mini starter, no alternator. Second part is what do you guys think of the ISP bolt on head supports. They seem pricey $475, but I have been knocked out 3-4 times running circle track over the last 18 years. Does anyone have them,  and will they hold up in a fire?  Many thanks.

Front Engine Dragsters / Strange steering box altered/ dragster
« on: July 26, 2014, 04:23:10 AM »
I was wandering how you guys secure your coupler to the steering box. I have a Strange altered/dragster steering box and I was going to drill through the shaft with a cobalt bit and put a set screw to secure the shaft. I burnt up 4 bits with cutting oil and didn't even put a dent. Was wandering if the shaft was made of kryptonite?  :) My butterfly wheel goes to a shaft with a coupler, that slide over the spline steering box shaft. I notched the splined steering shaft, drilled a hole in the coupler, dropped a pin through into the the slot and tack welded the pin to the coupler. There is some play in it and I don't like it. Looking for suggestions. I think I just screwed up a $523 steering box.  Anyone know what the heck the shaft is made of? S3441L is the box part #. Thanks
