man, you have to see that injector in person. I seen it at Dragway 42, Rock and Race, it shines like a new piece of jewelry. Flawless work for sure

Spud Miller's Cave / lookin for help, eh
« on: September 29, 2018, 01:56:11 PM »
Hello everyone, its been a long while, but I actually worked on the car again. Now for the questions, first off, the engine is a 392 Hemi, in a street driven car, with a automatic. I installed a Hilborn 4 port, with a bunch of cobbled parts. The pump is a Enderle 80A .1 that's remote mounted, I have 8 #14A nozzles,The barrel valve is from a flying toilet system with a #54 spool, a Kinsler jet holder with a 100 pill and a light spring (0.014"), a secondary poppet with a heavier spring (.042',and a .187" and a .042 shim) and a high speed poppet with a heavy spring ( .042" spring and 4 of  .042" shims).
Now, what's the opinions on what I need to basically drive the car at shows and the odd trip around the block. I would like to have a idea as to what spring and shim combos I would need in the poppets and the main pill and springs to make this work.
Thanks guys for the much appreciated help,
   Roger

Spud Miller's Cave / mechanical injection question
« on: March 24, 2018, 03:26:53 PM »
Hi Spud, its been a while, but I have another question regarding injection. I am finishing a project, 388 stroker SBC.Anyways, I have a Enderle 80A-1 pump for the bug catcher on top of a converted GMC 6-71. I plan on running alcohol. I also have another Enderle 80A-1 to put onto another project with a 6-71 and a Hilborn 4 port on gas. Now the question, I have two 3-way shut offs, one with -8 fittings and the other with -6 fittings. I also have a return loop kit that has -6 lines on it. Would the -6 line ( from the pump to the barrel valve)  be sufficient to supply the barrel valve with enough fuel in the blown alcohol setup on the 388 Chevy? Or would it be better suited on the other project with the hilborn on gas?
Thanks Spud, hope you can help me out, again
 Roger

I think I have the rotation correct, but I will have to look again, to make sure. I am going to make some arms for the throttle shaft and barrel valve, along with the linkage too. I will get back to that project in a week or two, after I finish the A40 Austin.

OK, as I said, I tried to drill the Hilborn barrel valve for 4 more nozzle lines. Didn't work, material way to hard, so I used the "Ron's" parts that I had, and came up with this. Barrel valve with a #54 spool, back to a 8 port distribution block. Out of the block to 4,14A nozzles on each side. I will use the other Toilet parts I have to finish the system, along with a 80A-1 pump.
 Any comments on this contraption?
 Cheers,
  Roger

 Thanks Spud.
I did learn something last night. Hilborn barrel valves are hardened after they are machined. I tried to drill 4 additional holes into the side of the barrel valve to feed the back side 4 nozzles, but struck out. That thing is hard as heck.
Spud, I will now have to go with 4 #28, 90 degree nozzles, do you have them for sale?
 Thanks again Spud,
   Roger

Really, nobody else has any ideas n tis setup? I have a stack injected, on Alcohol, small block Chevy in my dragster. so I have messed around with mechanical injection. I'm just looking for someone with a similar setup to send some advice to help me get this started.
  Thanks all,

Spud Miller's Cave / 4 port questions
« on: March 31, 2017, 03:01:11 PM »
Hi Spud,
I hate to be such a pain in the butt, but I am going to try this again. First off, the 4 port is going onto a 33 Willys gasser show car, running on gas. The motor is a .060 over 392 Hemi, with a hydraulic blower cam & a (5% over driven) 6-71 blower. I want to go with a more period correct setup on top of the blower, so I purchased a used short Hilborn 4 port. The spool in the barrel valve is a old #25. I also bought a bunch of parts from a toilet style system, that gave me 8, #14A 90' nozzles, a Enderle 80A.1 pump, a small barrel valve with a #54 spool and a bunch of bypass and pill holders. Now the questions, first off I took both spools out of their barrel valves and measured them. They are both the same length and diameter, so I put the #54 spool into the hilborn barrel valve. I also plan on drilling and tapping 4 additional holes in the Hilborn barrel valve to feed all 8 (14A) nozzles that I put into the 4 port. I plan on remote driving the pump to feed the 4 port.
I know that mechanical injection doesn't work on the street, but this is more of a trailered show car than a driven street car, Will this setup work, and if so, any idea on where to start with the pill, springs, shims etc.?
I know I'm a pain, but I am determined to get this project to work, with out resorting to a EFI system.
Thanks again for your thoughts and knowledge,
  Roger

Spud Miller's Cave / More questions
« on: March 14, 2017, 07:54:46 AM »
Hi again Spud,
Well I m still trying to gather enough parts to make this old Hilborn 4 port work on my mild, blown, street Hemi on gas (392, .060 over, about 8% overdriven, hydraulic cam) . I just bought a Ron's toilet system, without the throttle bodies. It came with 4 right and 4 left,90' 14A nozzles, a small barrel valve with a #54 spool, a couple of bypass holders, a quick jet holder and a Enderle 80A.1 pump (FIE860) and drive. I am wondering if this could be used in my situation? I was thinking of using 8 nozzles, and feed them from the back of the injector thru a distribution block. I could then use the single in and single out barrel valve from the Ron's setup. The setup also came with a box of springs, shims, pills and other small parts (30,35,40,50,60,65,70,71 Pills (hilborn)
.024,.028, .033, .044 springs
.188, .186, .187. .186, .033, .032, .031 shims
.015 spring X2.)
Sorry to be such a pain in the ass, but I'm new to this and am trying to finish this on a blue collar budget.
 Thank you again,
  Roger

Welcome back Spud. As usual, we all can count on you for help with our ignition and injection problems.
As for my parts, I will get a spool and 4 nozzles from Hilborn, I will also need a primary and secondary bypass holder, some pills and springs too, I guess. I will keep this system all Hilborn, and leave the Enderle parts with the bug catcher. I have a Enderle 80A.5 pump, that's been flowed,5.29 @ 4000rpm free flow and 5.07 @4000 @100PSI. Do you think this pump would work for my situation?
 Thanks again,
  Roger

Spud Miller's Cave / 4 port hilborn parts.
« on: November 13, 2016, 09:20:13 AM »
Hello again Spud,
Well I received my 4 port Hilborn, so now I know what I have and what I will need. The Hilborn has a square barrel valve with a #25 spool in it, and that's about it. I will make some new lines out of stainless tubing, but I will need nozzles, and a few by-pass valves I guess.
This is going onto my street car, a 33 Willys with a blown 392 Hemi, on gas. Its a mild motor, not a race motor. So you already told me I would need a -1 pump and #28 nozzles ( only 4 nozzles being used).
Now for the questions, would the #25 spool in the barrel valve work in my situation? I also have a Enderle bug catcher with #52 nozzles in it now and I also have a set of #48 nozzles too. Would I be able to just buy some Enderle nozzle holders and use the nozzles I have? I also have a few Enderle pills.
 Thanks for the help again,
   Roger

Gassers / Re: Willys is painted

As for the Austin, well I put some satin black paint on it (temporary). I also added the chromoly cage, and basically now have a rolling chassis. The motor, tranny, driveshaft and axles for the rear end this winter.

well I put some vinyl lettering on the car to try and get it to a show, Didn't make it. Now I will redo the lettering this winter with some oneshot and gold leaf. I'm going to make the black shadow larger and also increase the overall size of the lettering too. I'm going to order a new front axle from Ron Pope that is a few inches narrower than the one in there too
