Wanted to sell / HIlborn and Kinsler Nozzles II
« on: February 15, 2017, 02:28:50 PM »
8 Hilborn 8A Deflector tip nozzles-been a while  but think they were for up to 430" injected gas combo.

Not sure if Hilborn or Kinsler 16A deflector tip nozzles- used on 426" Blown gas Hemi.

Been 25 years since I used any of these so memories a little fuzzy about usages.
Might want to contact Hilborn and Kinsler with numbers to make sure.
$40 per set plus shipping.  Paypal or MO, PM me here, thanks.

Wanted to sell / KB 1" Stroker
« on: April 20, 2016, 10:18:02 AM »
Keith Black 4.750" Stroker crank-Last run as Injected Alky 608" 11.220" Tall Deck in Front Engine Dragster 7.22@192+. Mains are 2.746-2.7465" and rods are 2.3725-2.373". Don't know bob-weight, bought as a complete assembly, but probably 2750-2800. Not a trick Bryant or Winberg but a good solid crank. Could stand a polishing, pulled the assembly out to use block for a blower build, been sitting since. Have BME-JE 7.505" rods and 4.510" 1.35CH pistons but only know the history for the two years we ran them. You would have to have a tall-deck to run them, although they could actually work in a big-bore standard block with a 3.750" crank, give you a 479" but rod/stroke ratio would be in the ozone, 2-1 I think. Never know, somebody out there might be crazy enough to try it. Anyway, crank needs a new home, just sitting in the shop collecting dust. **NEW PRICE** $1200.00 shipped to lower 48. MO or Paypal, PM me here, Thanks.

Roo Man's Room / Aircraft tubing
« on: January 14, 2016, 05:02:20 PM »
Hey Roo,

Need to know how aircraft tubing is sized.  My wing struts appear to be about 1.375" at the wide side and .375" on the narrow.  Will the next size up be a close enough fit to let the smaller size telescope with a fairly snug fit or is there too much of a gap in the two sizes.  I'm trying to utilize part of my existing wing strut but need to extend the length about 10 inches to remount the strut off the back of the shoulder hoop uprights to satisfy the new f!@$^% wing rule.  Off topic, you still interested in the dual filter mount?  Didn't want to repost the ad if you were.
Thanks,

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: wedge heads on a hemi block
« on: September 01, 2015, 07:34:41 AM »
Not sure why there would be a head gasket problem unless you went larger than a 4.50" bore, the O-rings would be pretty close together and not much block material left since KB has the 4.80" bore spacing.  With most aftermarket wedge heads, you would need the larger bore to keep from shrouding the valves, not an issue with Hemi valve angles as they point toward center of bore.  You would have to plug the oil drain backs on the KB block as the wedge head doesn't extend as far as the end of the block on the lower corners, and you would probably have to mill some drain-back holes in the block to dump oil from the head back into cam-lifter valley, not ideal as oil winds up draining directly on spinning crankshaft, but not much else you can do, unless head manufacturer has added some meat on the end of the heads for a drain-back that matches the Hemi block. Back in the early 70's, the Mopar teams in NASCAR, modified the Hemi blocks to run the 440 heads because they could run much larger restrictors than the Hemi's at the time, finished 1.2.3.4 and 6 out of the top 10 at the 1971 Firecracker 400 at Daytona, shortly after NASCAR slapped a much smaller restrictor on them, making the combination obsolete.

Also go by whichever org (NHRA-IHRA) has the tightest rules and not the more lax requirments---that way one is never caught off guard.

Most excellent advice!!!
