Wanted to buy / 2 port hat (abused, damaged, homemade is great!)
« on: January 17, 2019, 10:26:06 PM »
Looking for something with more character than the new hilborn scoops. My injector was made in 1959 and ran a mail box style scoop originally, but a surfer or a old hilborn needing some work would be great

Also i could use a barrel valve for a 2 port too, even one that needs some fixing.

Front Engine Dragsters / gas vs e85??
« on: January 17, 2019, 10:17:19 PM »
What should i build for? This is strictly a traditional style budget weekend play toy. I dont care if i beat by everyone stock door slammer. It'll be either rail, or i'm leaning to traditional comp coupe, and looking for a rotted out model a sedan i butcher down to doghouse size so i can hide a legal cage. First though i think i might just use the motor on a stand to piss off the neighborhood.

I'm rebuilding a blown/injected 329" early olds for either a rail or comp coupe.  Current tally is a 329" olds with ported 394 heads, and 7.5to1.(all old stuff, still has AC racing plugs) Ive added a 6-71, vertex, lasalle box and a 2 port(from archie ary's 480" chrysler)

Thoughts?

June of 59 and for a 480” Chrysler that’s a big inch engine for 59!!!

Probably a 1/8" overbore and 5/8 crank, they had bigger balls when it came to boring things back then

I saw pictures of it and it looked really clean like very little use and stored in a dry area!

Well i get it in the mail tomorrow, but i already have the records back from hilborn. It was bought by "Archie's Garage" in june '59 for a 480" chrysler and says "bill Iskedarian" next to that. Well after doing a ton of research tonite i found Archie's garage was owned by Archie Ary and i'm guessing he must have been sponsored by isky since i was able to find a source saying he ran isky markings. He also founded the coulton drag strip in the 1950's.

Anyway i'm pretty sure i have photo's of it new now!

Yea i did, yesterday. I'm waiting for hilborn to get back to me, but it should be somewhere around 1960-61 production looking at serial numbers

What i mean is, i just bought a 2 port hilborn without a barrel valve assembly, can i throw a barrel valve off of a different injector on there? I realize the spool needs to be sized right to the application and ofcourse they have a different amount of outlets so can i just plug the outlets and go?

FYI this is for a vintage rebuild, i have a 329" olds that was girdled, blown and injected. I'm rebuilding into a weekend playtoy either fed or comp coupe. It'll probably be set up for race gas at this point

Spud Miller's Cave / What injection pump should i use?
« on: February 03, 2018, 11:07:31 PM »
I have a 329" early olds, blown, injected and heavily ported(ported 394 heads). I'm compiling parts for it now, and i was wondering which injection pump to go. This isnt going to be a competitive car, just a weekend plaything, probably a FED or comp coupe, although i have a wierd thing for a m/sp(i keep seeing rust bucket mg/a 's)

Anyway what 1960s' proper injection pump should i be looking for? This will be cam driven. Also i am shopping for a 2 port hilborn. Hilborn recommended a  waterman 700 pump or an Enderle 80A, but they seem a little big, plus i'm not sure if either fit the early 1960's time frame i want to build this to.

Thanks for the input, Yea it was an era of a lot of change, and looking at what was competitive there wasnt any set winners. Even at nationals rigs that could have been built in the late '50s did well.

My main reason for my cutoff is budget, the earlier stuff tended to stay more stockish especially at the smaller tracks. I'm kinda leaning tward '39 box since i can afford to grenade them until i get bored and i have a ton of light damaged transmissions and parts that a dirt tracker friend blew up in the day. Definitely a '57-64 olds rear, not sure which chassis design at this point since i want to make it legal. Making it legal will be cheaper and easier than getting busted dragging on the street with it, which i probably would.

Front Engine Dragsters / School me on early 60's correct drives for FED's
« on: January 17, 2018, 06:47:38 PM »
I'm looking at compiling parts for an early 60's correct FED build, I'm trying to decide what i should go drive wise. I have a blown, injected 329" early olds that was ran back in the day. What do you guys think about options for period correct drives.

Here are my current options, but i might go other stuff, but my cutoff is around '63 vintage. Also i'm a machinist so i can make anything work if i want to

-Set up a direct drive
-39 box built to race specs(Chassis research had a good article back in the day, including annealing and copper plating the gears, and i have 15 or so transmissions to pick from)
-cad lassale box(again, would need to rebuild it to race specs)
-race prepped olds hydro(i have one including modified fluid coupler, and 1/2 a dozen stockers for parts)

Front Engine Dragsters / Anyone running early olds engined feds?
« on: October 13, 2017, 10:46:42 PM »
I stumbled into a girdled 303 olds long block punched .155 over and running heavily ported 394 heads. It is around 7.5 to 1 and has a moon timing cover with no provision for water pump and a hole for hilborn pump. No history on it, but i got it from the liquidation auction of Jim Greens speed shop, and i'm still trying to see if i can find some more info. I think this might be a fun to build into a little early 1960's style rail

Anyway are there any other rocket guys on here? Anyone running small cube rockets?

Wanted to buy / wtb 394 olds blower manifold
« on: October 13, 2017, 09:05:22 PM »
I'm looking for a 6-71 blower manifold for a 394 olds. I'll go any shape, even something that's been milled, the cheaper the better, i'm a poor boy.
