Front Engine Dragsters / Re: check this one out .... ebay FED

Man, thats pretty cool.

Been a lot of interesting stuff on ebay as of late.  Couple of belly tankers went for $1,500 and less in the last month.

I am looking at a Chevy 250 block pour filled to within 1" of the deck, Bored .125 to 4.00 for 327 forged FT pistons, O deck the block, CR about 11.50-11.75, Clay Smith cam about .550/.550, Small chamber 62cc head with sbc 1.87/1.60 valves, After market 4bl intake with a 600 cfm carb. Will run water in 1" of the block and all of the head. This setup will make 266" and I hope 270-280 HP.

The single 4bbl is the only part that doesn't sound that great to me.  I think it looks more the part with a multi-carb setup.

Is a SFI cert. allowed before a engine is  location determined?

Hmm . . . I'll have to check my copy of the SFI rules.

The rules really only address what is behind the motor plate so it is possible.  I know when I got my frame certified I didn't even have the motor plate or anything else on it.  Loaded up the frame in the back of the truck and took it down to the track.

I also took the grinder to the block a little  ;D

Good thing you didn't let a certain chassis guy see your unsupported bend in the top rail!  :D

If I lived closer to a track I would go more often.  Right now there's 5 nostalgia races within 3hrs driving time so I will be going to those.

Otherwise its a trailer/car show queen.

So now you have 2?!??!  :P

I know how you feel . . . other than a wore out 283 that I rebuilt for a friend of mine to put in a XJ, I had never messed with chebby junk until the dragster.

I went the SBC/glide route because it was the cheapest and most period correct looking (motor anyways) for a 64/65 deal.

I did the same as 225 . . . didn't make a jig, just used a table and tacked angle pieces as needed to clamp to.

Mine is 137" WB

I bought both the 2-piece output shaft and rear coupler from strange . . .

I highly recommend the 2-piece.  Fitment is great and you can pull it out with the trans and rear in place.

The 2 dragsters that got me started on the road to building one was:

1. Magicar.  One of my favorites.  Love the body.

and

2. Zorba's Ghost.  Had me thinking I could actually build a "low budget" FED and race it.

Around here the disturbing the peace is not issue till 10:00 pm. A sheriff told me that if I fired funnycar up before 9:59 shu7t it down and there was nothing they coyuld legaly do. Guess what happened a cpl times right before loading for a race.

Hmmm . . . cop said the neighbors could try to push a noise ordinance if I start it again in the future.

I'm obviously not going to burnout up the street or anything but I would like to be able to set the idle where I want it and check it in gear.  It ran today 3 times, each about 30-45 seconds.
