Title: Tread front tires
Post by: Pipe Dreams on April 27, 2014, 05:06:02 AM
Thinking about changing to treaded fronts for more of an old school look. Any pros or cons over a new style slick?

I have run tread tires since I got the dragster. Have slowly worked the speed up to 8.03 at 162.

I have seen no bad side effects other than you can see the wear

Any decent Avon 17" tire is too old to run safely at high speeds and most of the Cackel guys are buying them up for restos. So what you have left are some 2 ply moped tires.  top speed and cars weight is a factor in running them.  With the new racing tires one can reduced the caster normaly run with crowned treaded tires.

S&W Racecars in PA has the Kenda tires usually found on most new builds for $35 a whack--best price on the planet--everyone else is near $90 a tire  they also have good tubes cheap.

Thanks for the replies guys, have a set of 17" pirelli motorcycle tires that look a lot like the kenda ribs that hayden wheels sell that I think I' m going to try.
