Title: Front Rims
Post by: grapro on January 13, 2014, 07:49:09 AM
I'm looking at purchasing my front rims and was wondering the preference between aluminum and steel, which is better for my application? or on a fed . Also where would be the best place to get them from. I have Stilletto Anglia spindles .

Be aware that buying a used set and having them rebuilt can somtimes cost more that just buying a new pair outrite.

Steel rims can be less expensive than alu---depends on buget
Minor weight difference has zero effect at our level
Steel will always be chromed
Aluminum can be colored anodized to match paint scheme

I'd check with Jon Hansen, from Hayden Wheels (800-624-3803 - http://www.haydenent.com/).

Jon is a member here.

Excellent products, customer service, not to mention his expertise on the whole Jr Fuel deal.

Well, GraPro, it depends on your application, if you're looking for wheels for the car in your profile picture, or a FED that would be different  wheels & tires. As far as chrome vs alum rims, I would recommend  alum because of where you live, the chrome will rust in time, especially if you are not on top of taking care of them.
Now you asked about rims, do you mean wheels ? Because if you are looking for parts, we can sell you all the parts you need, too.
If you are looking for Dragster wheels, we have some close-out 17" wheels, and even more close-out 18" wheels for Anglia spindles,
and we have "T" bucket wheels we can build to fit early Ford spindles, and tires.
Feel free to call, so we can figure what will work best for you, 800-624-3803, or 805-444-4489, cell.

And Thanks Recardo for the recommendation.
Jon

The cheapest price  I have seen for a New rim is 750 a piece.  Is that normal or what.  When I calculate that to Norway it will be x 2 with transport and customs.

$750 is normal for a PAIR (2)

Would customs be any different if they were "Bicycle" wheels instead of "Race car" or shipped as a kit that you assemble as the bearings came with it it but were not installed??

Bruce, that's a good idea, about pack or ship bearings differently , but I don't know how customs in Norway works.
I can tell you I sold a pair of wheels to Norway, but Peter Nygaard wanted the wheels fast so he paid $349 US for DHL Express 3 day.
Stuff I've sold/ shipped to UK costs $125-154, but again that's just USPS shipping not customs fees.
Bruce is also right about new wheels start at $750 a for complete pair, plus tires, and shipping.
