somebody posted about putting their puke tank hoses off the intake! (could not find the post but not very old) we did the same thing and it did not work on our car, we lost 2 qt to the puke tank >:( plus 2 cans of brake clean, 3 roller of paper towers, 1.5hrs cleaning it up, we think about 3 qts total loss.
this is a bbc with a wet sump
on the good side, the first full pass on the new car we were looking for 9.0 150 mph 8) it went 9.007 143 and change :o :o :o :o

How did you hook up oil pukes off the intake? Or are you talking water?

Not sure where you saw that but it was bad info IMO. Top of VC is normal point for puke tube connection.

Do you mean the intake valley? (older Hilborn's have an oil fill/cap there, in the same location of antique SBC's)

yes it is hilborn intake with two 1" holes in the front of the intake not the old oil holes (we think it was set up maybe for a dry sump.) no it was not advise someone was doing the same thing we already had finished just let that person knows it did not work on our setup :)

I am pretty sure you are talking about the early 392 Hemi Fiat altered in Australia.

One of the reasons that it works on Jim's car is because he has a dry sump system and because of that there is less oil actually in the engine (and also if it is efficient, negative pressure as well). Early hemis also do not feed a lot of oil to the rocker gear so there is less in the top of the engine, plus Murphy has that baffle over the lifter gallery as well. You need to understand the dynamics and have the whole package to make some of this stuff work.

Also have to take into account is that the early Hemis/race Hemis, have a bridge style manifold and seperate valley cover. There is an unbelievable amount of oil splashing around in the valley of a Chevy at high RPM and with breathing only at that spot, you will push out oil. Look what happens when the dist gasket or manifold end seal are installed wrong or fail. 20+ years of running valve cover breathers on a blown SBC and have yet to have to drain it for oil puke.

Steve, can you post pics of your set (also anyone else who has tried this before). I would like to make this system work, I plan to make a baffle setup as well, either over lifter gallery like Jim's car or attached to underside of valley cover - or both. I don't fully understand why oil would be pushed out of the valley area if appropriately baffled. Is the oil splashing around or under pressure and wouldn't the engine have the same pressure up in the rocker area if the valley was sealed. The main reason I want to use this system is to maintain some sort of nostalgia look for this car ( my original plan was for an old school late 60's car - now looking more like Mike Sullivan's early 70's version ), I like the look of the donovan breathers - they will be blocked off though. Because the valve covers are the highest point of the engine for which it can breath from. Breathing from the valley you lose 50% of volume.

Frank Ousley designed Jim's deal, then Jim refined it. There is a good reason for it, high volume, low air speed area. Those cars regularly nip pistons. for our deals, valve covers tend to work very well. Centered in the valve covers tend to get less oil than having them up front. Mine are near the front, however I get maybe a teaspoon of oil in my tank over 3-4 races.
