Title: fastest et
Post by: Norm on August 04, 2014, 05:13:48 AM
HI all
I'm new to this forum and was hoping someone could help me out with the fastest ET for a SBC front engine dragster on ALCOHOL.
I am running a 406 with an 871 and just ran our first 6 second pass with a 6.92 @ 192mph.

Thanks Norm.

welcome. Not sure fastest pass with blower I know Scott Parks went 6.77@197 with 383 injected alky. Yea was not a cheap SBC needless to say.

Switch to a 6-71 and you will be quicker, Too much HP draw with an "8"as you dont need the extra volume. Jason Ritchey ran some 60''s in N-A/F.  Been low 80's with a 377 and a 6-71 without killing it

Been 6.94 with mine with a little help from a nitrous bottle ! I would think that Dale Hall would still have been the quickest . The next time I see his son I will ask . Congrat's on your 6 second run ! Bill

Wasn't Santos quicker than Hall? But I do know that Jack Frost with his blown alky SBC with a screw ran 6 teens he really wanted a 5 second pass out of his altered but never got it, this was all used Santos parts. My SBC has gone 6.66 at 213 in my FED. But yes Parks is FAST with his injected alky SBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember seeing Dale run some 6.20s with a Blown Alky SBC in a FED back around 1988-1989 at Maple Grove. Dale had a blower on top of a tunnel ram and the longest blower belt that I had ever seen. The car would slightly shred the blower belt on each pass (he had only one belt) and he would clean up the belt by narrowing it after each run. Dale made it all the way to the finals and came to the line with a belt that was about 1 inch wide. Unfortunately the belt gave up in the final. Everyone in the crowd was loosing their mind watching the little Chevy beat all the Hemi cars. I'd love to hear Scott tell the story.
For unblown...both Scott Parks and Brian Darcy have gone 6.76 in A/ND trim. Engines are in the 380-385 CI range. In$ane!

the dale and norm show was always great to see. and always fun talking to them in the pits or their shop.

Bruce,
For the same air flow, a 6-71 needs to spin faster than a 8-71. So perhaps the HP demand may not be necessarily higher with the 8-71. I'd also think that the charge temperature out of a 6-71 (spinning faster) is hotter than a 8-71 spinning slower, so even with the same boost level, the 8-71 would deliver a denser change.

Does it make sense to you?

For those that may have missed it, Norm Case passed away last month. He purchased Precision Automotive from Dale about a decade ago when Dale retired, and has turned out a lot of fine engines.   Regards, Chase

Its about air compression and making the most pressure with the least HP draw. If I could (on my car) run a 4-71 and fill the volume requirments I would because the amount of energy required to spin the rotors would be far less. Santos ran some big numbers years ago after switching to a screw blower, not because it made more pressure, it was because it took 300hp less to run it.  Compressing air inside the manifold is fighting the rotors and trying to spin them backwords. the extra lenght of the "8" is leverge you are fighting if you are not depleting the air volume in the manifold. If your theory was true, why not run a 10,12 or 14-71 and underdrive it---because you want pressure and underdriving it will only take longer to make pressure.
When running Alc as a fuel the intake charge is around 64*. Gas being burned as a vapor, the droplets can heat up very quickly and become detonaton sensitive and thus intercoolers and chillers under the blower densify the charge, Alc burns as a liquid and at 2.1 times the volume as gas does not heat up and there for not likely prone to detonation.

That's the voice of experience, I hear you Bruce, thanks!

www.draglist.com is the place you want to look, and put your info in so that you are on the list.

yea but be warned you can be moved down that list pretty quick. My last alky dragster pass is around 225  or so.But hey it was 16 years ago. Nothing money can't fix. Dang I love the ride in blower car.Real blower not that under drive stuff.Sorry Glenn couldn't resist, didn't try too hard though.LOL
