Methanol / Nitro in epoxied heads?

(1/2) > >>

Big Rhino:
I am building a BBC and the heads are older EPD Racing and are extensively ported with epoxy.  I plan to run my stack injection on methanol and occasionally up to 30% Nitro.  Is this going to be a problem with the epoxy?

I can't tell you about nitro but I run my car and alcohol . I use epoxy on my small block heads and have had no issues . The best epoxy to use is called splash zone . It is a marine epoxy and it works very well . I have also heard that some engine builders will cover the epoxy with a clear urathane paint . I hope this helps . Bill

Big Rhino:
Thanks for the info.  I heard rumors of epoxied heads running methanol and the epoxy degrading/melting/peeling out..etc.  I was just wondering if there is anything to worry about.  Don't know what type of epoxy was used on mine, I bought the heads used.

We run 90% nitro with epoxy filled heads/block and have no problems. Lately, at the rate my wife goes through engines, we haven't had a block last more than two years, although we have another engine that's been running for over 10 years without any issues.

Andrew

Big Rhino:
Excellent, I feel much better now!   ;)
