Ceramic Coating Exhaust

I have spoke with a few shops in central Illinois and I was surprised most powder coaters don't do ceramic. One shop told me the product was a five day cold cure. I think I can borrow or buy the application equipment locally. How about the product? Thanks. George 62563

My Calif guy that does ceramic exhaust coating does not do powder coating. His ceramic coating does not take 5 days, they use an oven.
I have them do other items in the Hi-temp silver ceramic, like AC brackets for street rods, it looks like chrome, because they polish the parts after the ceramic coating.  Also they polish and use clear ceramic coating on Halibrand mag wheels so they don't turn green in the NHRA museum. I have even had them clear ceramic coat the hood ornament on my 48 Pontiac, instead of chrome.
 I offer the clear coat on my front dragster wire wheels for those customers that want polished alum wheels, but don't want to have to any upkeep, just clean them like any painted item, ie spray detail wax. The clear coat is clear, not like some of shine goes away like with clear anodizing. The only way I can tell the diff between just polished, and clear ceramic, is the feel.

Mike, I had them do a 4-1 pipe for a Pro Stock bike I ran in 1992. They did fine work. I'm looking to find someone closer. Looks like I'll buy the product and apply it myself. The bulk of the work is cleaning and prepping. A satin finish is what I'm looking for. Thanks. George

techline coatings in texas ...they offer a consumer grade , and a professional grade and must have a business in order to buy the professional grade .

NIC industries in oregon .

these are the 2 major companys who make it . there are little suppliers who resell it , but buy it from the company that makes it , it has a limited shelve life .

if your just looking or a satin black or something use NIC's product , it is air dry and is pretty user friendly .

it is a pretty simple product , but its very high solids it runs pretty quick if its alittle to heavy .  when you get it you will see how much stuff settles in the bottom , mix well , shoot a few light coats and you should be good ...... the only one that needs attention after the cure is the polished ceramic one , it should be done in a vibratory polisher to get the polished look , i have seen guys hand polish but the tumbler is best .

also , prep wise use aluminum oxide , dont use sand or other types of blast media .

take your time and im sure you will be fine , its not that hard

I just got my new set back from being coated and they look real nice . Kind of pricey though 250.00 to coat them inside and out ! I think it would have been cheaper in the long run to make them out of stainless!

Yes, after getting quotes from two shops at $250 and $300. plus shipping or travel we did it " in house" and have $125. in the project. Also, have more than half of the product left.

 Yes I have, many times. They can put a thousands per side or more.
It is just a moly coating but helps alot when you need to get another season out of the block and pistons.
