 Looking to stay around 10 sec the car was used for 1/8 mile drags it has a 9" ford rear and worked turbo 350 trans motor is 400hp looking to have fun what would be a good ball park gear and keep rpm under 7k. car is 1600lbs

1600# w/ 400hp direct(no loss) ET is between 9.5-9.80
general assumtion is that its around 140-145 mph
30" tall tire @7000 running @ 145mph  would put you at a 4:30

I'd put wheelbase and trans braked box in the mix to.   A short car with a braked 3sp box on 4.30's will be lively.   Also depends what the useage of the car would be.  For a bracket car, I'd run taller ratio to tame the launch and give you the legs for a big end charge.

we run 33" x 10.5, 456, gear 8 3/4 rear, with a  sb chey very stock, hyd cam 6000 at the big end, 138 mph 9:50 on a 9.50 index. 1450 lbs race ready.
 33% pure fun 8) about 2 tens more
50% it will go FASTER OR BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!! :D

thanks guys the car has a scat balanced rotating assembly and a hydraulic roller procomp aluminium heads. The car has a 120" wheelbase and is on 29.5 x8 tires the guy prior to me ran only 1/8 drags and shifted all three gears. I want to use the car for nostalgia events and don't want to get to crazy. car has a foot brake and currently launches in low.

hey there hotrod316   I am running the same combo but motor will turn 7000 to 7500.  any thoughts on gear for this one?  currently running 9.0 at 158 and 5200rpm
