Engine timming

Hey guys question on engine timming new to drag racing on my former dirt modified engines we ran a small block on gas with tons of compression 75 laps a night with 38 deg of timming on a restart we would turn it up tp 40 and then set it back. say 38 to a drag racer and they have a heart attack . i currently have a mild 350 small block 10 to1 on gasoline water in block only, what are your thoughts.

Hey Larry, I'm sure you already know this, but the answer is "it depends". I might start at 34- 36 and go up and down in 2 degree increments and see what the time slip, the plugs, and your ears tell you. I think you've got the experience to get you where you need to be in short order.

Are you push starting or using a block starter?

I have a block starter and my mag has a 20 degree retard at start.
