Cam Driven Oil Pump
« on: January 16, 2014, 04:23:12 PM »
The sprint car guys run the oil pump off of the front of the cam. You can also run a fuel pump off of the front of the oil pump.

Some say this transfers harmonics to the valve train and transfer heat to the fuel pump.

Whatcha think?

The reason I ask is my block has no provisions for an oil pump and I would like to do a crank mounted starter on a A/fuel deal. (removable)

I really don' t want to do a dry sump, rather a single stage wet sump and a belt drive pump would probably be in the way of the starter set-up.

How much heat gets transfered in 6.5 seconds??? thats like people ask about sitting on the rear end and how hot it gets.

Hello Captndiet:
Run your stuff of the camshaft!
RCD has a lot of drives for different applications.
You did not post what engine you are using but look at the RCD web site and see if they can help.

Matt

It's the Dodge R5 engine they used in Nascar.

Ain't nothing common on this engine.

The CNC shop I use for parts that I sell can deal with the brackets, just wanted to make sure I was not missing something by going the cam driven route.

Thanks for the input.
