What did you do on your Front Engine Dragster TODAY?

I had a longggg day yesterday. Went to Commerce, Ga and watched the big boys run. Geez, those things are too fast. More high tech stuff than the space shuttle. Came home after a 15 hr day with my tail feathers dragging.

What part of GA. are you in? We will be heading up to a track near Valdosta soon with some friends to run the Supercat FED.

Yesterday we got the new mag drive for our 462" that's in the Supercat FED. I will try to get the Mag in this week so we can run the car on Saturday at Orlando.
I'll post some update pictures of the car and the new shop soon.

Installed a new A/C in the trailer today and a new vent over the generator. Finally got the Onan running sweet  (and they say you cant work on the Onan carbs) I guess the Interweb carb pros aren't racers LOL. Got the new awning material and installed it last week. SOooo, only 2 months late we're ready to test.

Be sure to check gear back lash, just replaced mine because it was not set up right from Strange (gears were to worn to save)

I just bought all the parts from Strange. Gear set up was done by a old school drag racer.  He has done a lot of  setups for the local  racers around here. I was wondering what kind of transmission cooler most fed boys are using on glides.

This is what I did, with steel lines running from the cooler back to the transmission. Ran it three years, pulled the transmission sent it out to be rebuilt, Lyndon at Rutland transmission http://www.lidiakmotorsports.com/rutlandracingtransmissions/ said the parts were like new, did not replace any, re certified the case and sent it back to me.

Just a looped line out and in and good tranny fluid. Had a cooler once- started to leak, got rid of it

I haven't posted for awhile partly waiting for warmer weather and father sick for about 2 months. finally caught up with everything.
had the gear backlash redone. changed from a s/plane to a b&m s/c. got it all back together. my son does the wiring and had to redo what I cut or ruined. he took it for a test drive in the driveway and he had some issues. he said he wanted to go faster. lol. have to get started on the intake for the 4-71.

Worked on the Sr drag today. It is still running a bit fat. Probably due to the strength of the signal from the tunnel ram which can make carbs run rich. I m dropping the jets two sizes and will run it around and see if I like it.

I have a father that nobody's right but him. he fell due to his neleglince back in feb and march and ended up in the home for 6 weeks. doctors, nurses, therapists, everybody's wrong on fixing his problem. can't tell him anything. so that made my first half of the year very slow.
but back to racing.

Re coolers. About 8 years ago I started making my own coolers. I use the same tubing size as the lines and wrap it in a coil around a paint can etc (just to form it then remove it)for about 12 loops and then return to the trans. it works so well I wonder why I ever bought a cooler. Gets rid of the excess heat nicely, doesnt plug , easy to clean and strong enuf not to leak. And I drive to the line and back to the pits with no issues. I put the inverted flare nuts right on the tubing ends so it is a one piece stand alone unit. Even on a long stage at 4700 on an 8 inch converter no issues. Someone once suggested it was a dumb idea (because of course it wasn't store bought and wouldn't work) so I suggested  he hold his hand on it. ;>)Apparently he had no faith in his own words. Which brings me to another issue. Why do people say thing like that when they can plainly see it is working and has been for some time?

Re Dads
I have one of those too. My Dad is an engineer (EE) and reminds me I am only a technician. He decides he doesn't have time to eat and being an engineer he believes allows that since "he knows" .  I totally respect his technical ability in his field as he has had quite a career but in real life , well you obviously understand. He is now 90 and will never change so we can only try and help and keep our mouths shut hoping of course we will not wind up the same but knowing probably we will.
