25*....heatwave  ;D when it gets 80*, i'm looking for 25*.
mine is up on stands to pull the motor/trans. need to change converter to a higher stall and change the gearing. started cutting up another mopar intake, sorry guys, to build another intake for the buick. trying to make it dual purpose. carb and s/c. will see how this will work.

     OK, several months ago I traded for an all alum. SBC. :D Milodon block, 4.030 bore, early Dart heads ported by ODDY"s, BDS 8-71 blower 3.625 BRC crank with BBC snout, 8.5-1 comp. Crower rods, Venolia pistons, solid lifter flat tappet blower cam, (ODDY"s proprietary specs). It supposedly had only a couple of dyno pulls on it and had been sitting for a long time (15 yrs).  (I got the build sheet from ODDY's.) I pulled the top end and cleaned everything up, looked at and miked the bores, checked valve spring pressures. etc. removed the valve guide seals,  looked at a couple of bearings, then reassembled it. I also removed the two 750 Holleys and replaced them with a Bugcatcher and 80A-1 pump, #44 nozzles in the hat only.        After installing this unit in my fed, I started it up and set the timing at about 36 degrees BTDC. It quickly became apparent that @ 10% over driven, this mouse would roar  :o. However I had observed that the rods, shown in the paperwork as "Crower" were probably Sportsmans. They are good to about 500-550 hp. Soooo, after bumping the throttle a couple of times, I sez to myself "self those rods ain't gonna cut it". Some quick calculations based on previous builds suggest hp. in the 850 range.    Today i finally pulled the thing all the way down and next week I'll order rods and pistons and take the crank to my machinist for a re-balance.  :P

With any luck I'll be ready by spring.  8) I'm going to shoot for a static compression ratio close to 11-1. More hp is just a pulley change away. Hoping to see what it's like to run the eighth in the 4s in a FED. The next big decision is gear ratio. The rear is an 8 3/4 Chrysler with 4.86 gears, (I think) anyways its almost 5 turns to one.      I understand some of the Jr Fuel guys are running hi gear only and running very low 7s in the quarter, so I don't think I'll need much gear.  Decisions, decisions.......

375 ci sbc,  10.2CR ,  6-71/bug (hat nozzles) 18% over, 34*lead
3.90 gear, 33x12x15 GY d3,  1650 weight

1.07 60'  4.53 1/8's and thats leaving off high idle with a hand brake

We ran a similar combination last year...
.060 over all iron 354 early hemi (365 cu in) 11: 1 cr, plain 6-71 with bug, hat nozzles only,
Arias pistons, MGB rods, Crane roller cam (272/480), nice heads & rocker arms.
All this in a 200" FED with a powerglide, 12-31-15 Goodyears, 4.11 gear @ 1700lbs on the line.
1.08 60',  4.6 in the 1/8th @ 150mph...Blower at 10% under and leave at high idle.
Very nice set-up with low maintenance.

Starting to think about next summer racing season.

Built an engine cradle this weekend and took the engine over to Matt ( of  Matt Shaff's Engine Shop here on the forum  http://www.frontenginedragsters.org/forum/index.php?board=26.0 )for him to go through it and put on the dyno to see what HP it puts out with the blower.

Next is building the crate to send the transmission out.

I've never heard of any jr fuel using high gear only. Pretty standard jr fuel is 1.69 low gear and 4-10-4.30 ring/pinion gear. It does sound like there's never a shift from 1st to 2nd because of the high rpm's and 7500 7" stall converters. Hearing two jr fuel dragsters blow by @180mph and 10,000rpm is really somethin. Driving it is even better!!!
