Beadlocks?

(1/1)

imcamod17:
I am building a new 200" Hal Canode FED and I was wondering what tire pressures I should start with.  I did not buy beadlocks and I was wondering if I should drill and put screws in my new rear rims, don't really want to because they are so so cool looking. 17 x 2 fronts and 29/12 x 15 rears Hoosiers. Going to start out with a mild small block chevy and powerglide. Also what is a good aftermarket power glide. Raced a fed 10 years ago but have been running an asphalt modified and a dirt street stock since then and just need my memory refreshed. Glad this site exists to help bone heads like me. I think I used to run 25psi front and 7 psi in the rear. Thanks

George:
I run a 12 x31 tire on a 12" wheel on my FED. Eight screws per side . I was told the last time I bought tires to add more screws. The 60' are 1.06-1.12 . I have run Goodyears and Hoosier JR fuel tires. I start at 6psi and go up from there. The Goodyear fronts get 45psi.

Also found that the Goodyear 2585 is the fast tire.

Foot Feed:
I've heard Permatex High Tack works. Put a coat on the tire bead and rims, let it dry then put the tire together.

I've also heard to do one bead only per rim (the side toward the car), or you'll fight like heck to get the tire of later.

google - permatex high tack tire and you'll find some info.

Supercat:
We use a Hoosier 12X33 on an 11.5 wheel with about 7.5-8.0 psi.
Car is a 200 inch FED and we have done a best 1.09- 60ft. We do not have screws or bead-locks and we have never slid a tire yet.
We have bead-lock wheels coming as the new combo will go past 200mph.
We have marks on our wheel and tires (both sides) and we check frequently to make sure all is good.
