caster angle how critical 1* differance
« on: May 21, 2014, 11:30:36 AM »
When I sat the a-arms for FED I was in very confined area(nothing new). I was just checking things the other day and found that right one was 1 degree less than left 18/17. Checked 3 times.  I doubt it will have much effect but figure asking could not hurt. I would hat to remake the a-arms but hect why should they be different than most things here lately?

Unless someone has reason it would be bigger issue than I think I plan to do just that.

I am with Bruce--run it. A few years ago I installed a MW dropped front axle on a car at the owners request and it had about 2 degrees variation in caster as supplied by MW.

According to DLong, a little unbalance is a good thing, have a different load keeps the front wheels from wobleing while backing up almost like a steering dampner

I could agree that a little imbalance could be a good thing, except my digger has a couple more than an couple of degrees of that same imbalance, albeit around 30 degrees of caster rather than around 20 degrees.  And it will try to whip the butterfly backing up, given certain excessive inputs and a bit of speed. Big caster effect, I'm thinking, not so much the difference between one side and the other.
Just keep the same amount of stuff on the right
as there is on the left. Seeing straight ahead is highly overrated....
