Early Hemi 60s style Fed nears completion

Dolmetsch:
Cam is now run in. Engine will run for 11 minutes before getting warm (195F) II suggest a rad but Mikes says back in the day it would have had no rad or tank so he should be able to tow to the line fire, short warm up, burn thru, back up and run in less then a minute which I believe is reasonable BTW then kill it at the finish line and coast around the corner to his tow vehicle. Probably possible but it will wear thin quickly I think. Anyone running a no rad deal on gasoline with any advice or experiences?

Dolmetsch:
I made a short video of Mikes rail running today at the Ameliasburgh car meet. Cant get it to load but did burn a disc.

CACKLEFEST at Ameliasburgh meet. At dusk SAT at I went to the shop to make sure all was off and of course to have another look at the VW gasser
As I walked from the garage to the house I could here Mikes Hemi running and another rail I know well. That of Pat Doornbos. Pats is an old FED from years ago and he runs a BB Chevy with a set of Hilborns which gives it a characteristic sound. Both cars were on display at the Ameliasburgh meet and were parked about 300 feet apart on the grounds. The Meet is about a mile from my door so the sound carries down here easily. I heard today that Mikes rail has eight pointed blue flames licking the grass as it ran.  I wish someone had the forthought to have made a video or even a picture.

Apparently Sat aft mike discovered why the rule book specs a neutral safety switch. My old boss stopped by Mikes and asked to see the  run. Mike said when he fired it he forgot he had put it in reverse to roll it. (he hasn't got his shifter linkage sorted out yet) Luckily he was in it at the time. That is the first it has moved under its own power. Said that night he backed it back in the garage the same way. He was going to work on the linkage tonight. I heard it running about 7.30 even though he lives a couple of miles away in the valley so maybe he has that sorted out. Says it runs fine . We haven't set anything yet. It is just as it was for initial firing.
