ETC Limiter with tach output on my Mallory.
« on: May 20, 2013, 02:44:02 PM »
After a test session yesterday, i'm very happy with my ETC rev limiter.  I purchased the single stage rev limiter WITH the tach output wire option. I hooked up a MSD shift light (msd shift light 89631).  The rev limiter picks up about 10% early (ABOUT 7200rpm when set for 8000rpm, spud believes this is ignition noise, but it repeats so who cares).  The shift light works perfect, and this MSD light also has a tach display on it for working in the pits (not visible from my seat).

Finally, some decent shiftlight/rev limiter options for mag equiped cars.

Tune up was WAY fat & lazy, but i'm hunting down why it's hurting mains.  Hurting parts isn't my style. I have to drop the pan after this hit and see if it's fixed.

BTW, the crew guy in the black shirt is my 15 year old son Austin. This is his first go around as my crew guy.  He handled everything from doing the final prep to get ready, strapping me in, firing the car, and backing me up.  I couldn't be more proud of my son.  I realized a dream Sunday. Racing with my son.

The family thing is great.

Neither of my sons have picked up the racing bug and go to the track with me.

My wife however has. We have a gasser in the plans for her in the future. I was supposed to build it over the winter, and got side tracked with the blower and mechanical injection

I have a couple ideas.
1. was crap in the system that was missed. I don't really believe this, as there was nothing in the bearing or the pan.
2. detonation from being on the limiter too long.  The fuel tune up was well within the window of safe, and the plugs showed ok.

this combo has been together for four years and has never touched a bearing, even with 26#s of boost and running 7.teens.

I fattened it up to rule out lean, and upped the limiter so it never touched it sunday.  I really hope the bearings look ok. :(

It killed #2 again big time.  Pulling the crank to see if it's bent/cracked.

Greg I had some issues with mine awile back Iwould loose oil pressure shutting down . It wasn't hurting bearings bad but they wern't as good as they should be . I put an accusump on and it cured the problem  . I also opened up the clearance to .0035 and went to coated bearings . I don't know if my problem has anything in common with yours . I just thought I would share this with you . I hope you find the cause Im sure you will

Thanks for the ideas.

Mine has a 3qt accumulator on it.  I run .0045 and 50w oil.
