Higher trans lower rear
« on: March 17, 2022, 05:39:51 AM »
Anyone running higher trans gear(lower number) and lower rear gear(higher number ? My thinking is it will ease hit at starting line tq wise while allowing for lower top end gearing to give it extra ump  to pull  last 1/4 of track. Not really concerned about top end rpm. In my case the motor use to turn 10.5k with a blower,  so a few hundred extra NA, extra being above 8000 or 8500 rpm is no biggy.  Plus 99% of runs will be 1/8 mile.

I did have some input from ol guy in Kansas about trans gear and was told do not run 1.80 low. Yea I am not lkeaving at 9200 rpm, but figure TQ with bigger crank will make up for that.Maybe wrong. What are you running. If known weight and HP please.

Interesting topic, lets hope someone who has the knowledge jumps in with facts. I always thought this is only a matter of final starting line ratio and one can compensate.

Chris you want to cross about 200 rpm above peak HP ! Thats if you want to be as fast as the car can run ! Your low gear choice should not change what your rear end ratio should be ! Great to finally meet you in Gainsville ! I wish we had more time to talk but the weather put a dampner on that ! We got down to 5 cars in Top Dragster ! We lost in round 3 and the guy we raced had a .000 light and went dead on with a three ! My friend was .012 on the tree and ran 6.42 on a 6.43 still a good race !

Yea weather screwed everything up. We had a broken reverse cable and jammed up inside the outer shield.  Hopefully Charlotte will be better. Owner spending a small fortune on flowing pump and system. Cool thing is we are going down to play on the flow bench at Rage .Found out we are 300 psi instead of 400 and about 50 gpl instead of 50, reason for dropping cylinders.

You going to Charlotte?
