Run/Ran aluminum SBC (Donovan) for 24 years, dry block ,wet sump, Water is only critical in the heads to keep from burning up between the exhaust valves. Unless you get/got a smokin deal on a Sprint Car dry sump block, it's weight and lots of expense without any real gain

I run a Brodix block and AJPE heads I run dry.  If I had a conventional headed SBC I would run water in the heads.

We run a Dart block w/ Brodex symmetrical style heads and a VHS dry sump system; blown application.

In the past we have used standard style heads while circulating Evans Coolant through the heads only by way of a VW Scirraco electric water pump.

One other thing worth noting. with a narrow dragster chassis we mounted the pump under/ off to the side of the oil pan. Must use a shallow pan.

If you want to see a photo, I'll have to dig around for one.

I ran a Kuhl River Rat pump

If you decide to go with a belt driven oil pump, install the fuel pump to it also, that way when the pump fails or belt breaks the engine stops running and don't tear it up running it without oil pressure

If the belt breaks it's more than likely because the pump seized and it'll be too late by then anyways. Have not seen both pumps driven off the same belt before. In line with each other, but not side by side.

My statement was in regards to install in-line. Back in my Sprint/Midget days, belt drives were an issue. I still fail to see any measurable benefit to a D-S system in what we do

I think the aluminum block takes the center cylinder heat better than any Iron block. The Iron gets Hot and stays hot. Aluminum dissipates that heat. Make sure you feed the center cylinders a bit more fuel to keep them happy, youll get several more runs out of the head gaskets compared to Iron. Just my .02c.
