gas vs e85??
Shaggy:
What should i build for? This is strictly a traditional style budget weekend play toy. I dont care if i beat by everyone stock door slammer. It'll be either rail, or i'm leaning to traditional comp coupe, and looking for a rotted out model a sedan i butcher down to doghouse size so i can hide a legal cage. First though i think i might just use the motor on a stand to piss off the neighborhood.
I'm rebuilding a blown/injected 329" early olds for either a rail or comp coupe. Current tally is a 329" olds with ported 394 heads, and 7.5to1.(all old stuff, still has AC racing plugs) Ive added a 6-71, vertex, lasalle box and a 2 port(from archie ary's 480" chrysler)
Thoughts?
Curly1:
If it is Blown and Injected then do not mess with gas or E-85. Go Ishtar to Alcohol and do not look back. IMHO
JrFuel Hayden:
Yes alky is easier to tune, does not change tune-up when it air get hot, like gas, and you don't need to run a raditor, or water pump, just run water in heads and block. Another tip is alky burns better with a hot engine. I shoot for 180° when pulling the car into the staging beams, using an inferred heat gun looking at the head. 180 with water in the engine and 150-160 dry. Alky has a larger tuning widow.
Rat:
On the subject of water, what is your preference when running alcohol, pressurize the system or just fill.
Obviously pressurizing lowers the boiling point.
jeff/21:
I don't know if this is right but I run a 22# cap to pressure the system started this when ran gas and would always run hot just kept it when we changed to alky but got rid of the pump, rad, and fan nver had a problem
