Thanks for your replies guys. I think I'm going to go with the std insulator bolted to the trans but resting on the on a mount. That way the box can still move about but the mid plate wont have to carry all the mass of the box.

that's the way I would do it,because you don't have a  aftermarket bell housing (I don't think they are available).
