fORD 9" full floater

(1/1)

DNCMOTORS:
Just looking for some basic advice to get started.  Having David Beard finishing my new 200" FED.  I choose a full floater 9" rearend, because I'm comfortable with them from dirt car racing.  Question: Aluminum or steel third member housing?  Do I install the plugs to keep the oil inside the center section?  Any good advice or lessons learned from full floaters?
Thanks

wideopen231:
aluminum third member is fine and shaves about 20 lbs..Ran them for years in Top Alcohol cars. Get the bolt thru style and if me I would get the 3.875 bore. Make sure you can fit 9.5 gear in it as option later if want. If available get drilled axles, not sure they are for floaters .

rooman:
Strange has a gun drilled option for their floater axles.

I run Mark Williams gun drilled 40 spline floater axles in my car

I agrre alum, never broke or chracked in 20 years of racing a FED,  steel if you are racing a heavy door car, not  FED.
