Transmission shield

Is anyone using a CSR  supershield? I'm needing to update my tranny cover and flexplate shield and was looking at the csr, they seem to be tight fitting to not take up much room. I have a blanket on now and was wondering if this would be better.

I've only used blankets.

I have friends with the carbon shields, and i believe i've heard every single one cuss at them for interference issues.  Zero first hand experience however.

our two PG's have aftermarket cases with intrenal shields, lighter and out of the way.

Do you have to send the case back every 5 years to recertify?

Yes, how often do the shield have to be re-certed ?
Accually is was easy, we take the trans apart, so we only have the case, make an appointment, drive to Reed, near Sacramento, along with race buddy's case, and they certified them while we had lunch, and then drove home.

The CSR shield you mention would will act as some insulation for keeping heat from escaping the trans. and it isn’t supposed to be modified if it doesn’t fit properly. The blanket is an even better insulator for heat retention. The traditional aluminum shield takes little additional room compared to the other and allows for some air circulation between it and the case. Of course a new SFI approved case would be the hot ticket and also the most expensive. When I checked on having the case in my last car recertified, it was shipping costs to & from the coast and a $100 charge to recertify, at that time.

CSR's never fit right around the cooler lines and you have to open it up with a grinder (hard to do since its Kevlar).  After market case's are expensive, but cheaper in the long run, Most manuf will tell you its cheaper to buy a new sheild then to re-cert

I have the CSR shield and yes it too has to be re-certified periodically. Its work to make it fit but you fit the case to the shield, not the shield to the case. If you are using cooler lines it is more work as the hole for the cooler fittings is super small. Otherwise its light, does not have clearance issues and costs tons less than the heavier aftermarket cases.  I believe I will keep it around even after buying the Reid case!

The CSR shield will not fit a reid case without major grinding of the aluminum and spacing the shield back from the bell housing, I've done it and it's a pita and basically kills the SFI of the Reid case
