Powerglide Cable Adjustment
« on: May 24, 2017, 04:48:49 AM »
If the shifter cable is believed to be adjusted properly, i.e. park, reverse and 1 -2 shift occurs, is it normal for trans to have a slight forward movement when in neutral?

Mine does, especially when the engine/trans is cold. I attribute it to viscous drag internally, as I can easily stop the car from rolling by putting a hand on the tire, or dragging the brake slightly. If it is significantly more than that I'd look for some misalignment in the drivetrain somewhere.

Yes is normal, it is the drag of the high clutch. The more clutches you have in high the more the drag you will have. There is only so much space in the drum, so more clutches means less gap between the clutches resulting in more drag. As long as it doesn't take much brake to stop the wheels from moving you should be fine.

Thanks Dan...8 clutch drum versus my old 6 clutch setup.  I've checked the cable adjustment and felt it was good.
