twisted front axle
« on: February 19, 2013, 06:29:52 PM »
Hey just came over from the HAMB awesome site BTW.
My problem is my front axle has a slight twist and when
I set it up last year one rod is got a tonne of torque on it
and the other is loose.
Anyone know where I could get this straightened?
It's a new car to me 192" CM new chassis old front and seat pan from a 60's car.

I'm having trouble with the front hitting the track and it is always worse on the loose
side.
The local tracks are pretty rough too and I'd like to raise the car up some as well.

Some photos would be helpful so we could see exactly where the twist is located.

Is it twisted, or does it have the 2" offset in it (left spindle 2" behind the right spindle when the front wheels are straight ahead).?

No it's not offset at all.I have to put a lot of torque on my radius rods
to get my caster to within 3-4 degrees from one side to the other.

One rod is tight from pulling and the other rod is almost bowed from pushing
the axle. It's a torsion front end off of a 60's car.

I'll get some pics. posted soon maybe someone on here can help identify it.

I'm almost positive it has a twist from an incident of some sort and the tracks here
are a bit rough and not helping the situation at all.

I finally found some time to take the front end apart and post some pics.
I'd like to get the car up higher and when I do this it keeps twisting the 1/2
key stock that makes up the torsion front.
Like I said before the axle actually has a twist in it and this is making matters
a bit worse. It's impossible to see in the pics but I would like to get it straightened.
Any ideas?
