sorry need help again
« on: March 15, 2017, 02:09:08 PM »
Matt,
bbc
new build,
have 65lbs oil  pressure at all the side all ports,
have oil coming out of the first rockers on both sides rear ones back of the motor
primed the motor about 20mins even turn the motor over
CAN NOT GET OIL OUT OF THE REST OF THE ROCKERS
THOUGHTS,
last cam bearing wrong
is it just filling the lifters up (solid lifters)
wrong lifters
just prime it longer

OR
HOLD IT TO THE FLOOR TILL PARTS STARTS TO FLY 8)
STEVE M
AS ALWAYS THANKS FOR YOU TIME IN ADVANCE!!

 Hello Steve:
65 Lbs is enough to get oil upstairs.
What kind of priming tool are you using?
Does the tool fit good in the bore that is in the block?
Oil goes around that to the other lifters.
What kind of lifters?
Don't hold it to the floor just yet!!

sorry Matt just got home to 40* it was 78* in fl.
it's a old gm hei, the priming tool.
will check the fit
the lifters and cam are lunati
the first rocker on both side have great oil flow  (very back)
it like there is no oil getting around that first lifter
is this right,
the oil flow up the back of the motor,
around the back cam bearing grove
up to the right and left side oil galley
to the lifters, fills the lifters then upstairs
at the same time the oil goes around the first lifter to the next one etc.etc.?
will try priming longer
THOUGHTS
OK, will hold off  the floor little longer
as always
thanks for your time because time is all we really have!

Are your front oil gallery plugs in, the ones behind the cam gear? Mark IV block?

just primed the motor for 30 mins.  waited 30 mins removed the covers two more rockers have oil. something is not right.
left the valve covers off, turn the drill on, within 5 seconds oil shot out the right side back rocker harder than I pee when i was young. ;D
Is the back cam bearing in wrong.
or wrong lifters
anything to check before putting it back on the engine stand.
next time will just put the intake on it and prime the motor on the engine stand. 8) not in the dragster ready to go  :'( :'( :'( :'(
thanks all

 Steve:
Is it a Mark IV / late 60's into the 1970's engine block?
The factory installed front oil galley plugs had a very small hole to bleed off trapped air.
The original hydraulic lifters would tick when the engine was cold.
We don't want the bleeder style plugs in when you build a race engine.
Have you turned over the engine while priming? Spark plugs out, no load on the engine.
You can also call me tomorrow @ 585-288-1499 shop / 585-739-1889 cell.
Sometimes talking is easier than typing.

Matt,
talked to tech person at  lunati,
he say to take the lifter apart a clean it, (we clean them before putting in them in, but not taking them apart)
did that, there was very small piece of something in there, that fixed the one lifter that pees like a 10 year old.
after cleaning all the lifters (apart) and seeing more on how the oil flows through them,
I can see why it could take sometime to get oil to the front rockers.

I SIGNED THE WAIVER FOR YOU!
NOW IF IT WILL JUST LIGHT  ON
SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY
AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR
HERE YOUR WAIVER

matt,
we lit the little monster yesterday,
man i miss that smell 8)
ran and sounded great.
ran it for 6 mins between 3000 3500 rpm
at six mins the oil pressure gauge started to bounce 65 down to 40 back 65 very fast
we shut it down,
talk about it, thought what the frat!
pull the filter off and cut it open look good.
drain the oil,
added new filter and 8 and half qts oil, green oil.
old oil looked little milky not bad
relit the it, solid 65psi at idle
started raise the rpm up
2000 rpm gauge when nuts shut if off.
shame i do not drink WHAT we burn ;D
think we grabbed a rod bearing
starting pulling the motor apart
found the lifter that peed like a 10 year old boy
that cam lobe gone  i mean GONE!!! LESS THAT 7 MINUTES RUN TIME  (we time the running time)
there most be something i'm missing in this motor
this is two cam wiped out, both on the same side of the motor
will get to the lower end tomorrow to see if we did grabbed a rod bearing
any more thoughts?
o well, time for a good cigar and a mount dew there go my sugar
as always thanks for your time
ANYBODY GOT ANY THOUGHTS
THANKS STEVE M  :D

Steve:
As per our conversation, did you get a value of open valve spring pressure?
Also start to look at rocker arm geometry.
Or call me @ 585-288-1499
