Food For Thought

Even though Front Engine Dragsters are Nostalgia by nature and the sport has evolved tremendously in so many areas, one area gives me angst every time I go racing.  It's the Tech Card, living in the computer era, why are we still filling out Tech Cards like we did 30+ years ago?  Talk about time consuming, manually completing tech info such as driver info, the myriad of SFI info etc...Why couldn't there be a PDF type form completed prior to arrival that you print at home and bring to the track, then sign it in front of tech inspector.  There are many possibilities to improve this process...your thoughts?

Hi John Some of the racers will bring a sheet that is a copy of the tech card with all of there info printed on it . We staple it to there card and have them sign it . You still need to bring the car to tech but it takes much less time . It is a big help when the racer has all of his info filled in . You would be supprised how many guys show up to tech with a blank card and expect you to just sign it !

In my log/run book I have a page with all the SFI specs and dates and fill out the tech card before heading to the tech area. The bottom section of the card has info that is handed to the announcers.

I got this idea from Steve

Speeding up the process of filling out the card is a good idea. After getting teched in at the Epping D1 race last year, I asked the people at the NHRA booth for a blank card that I could fill in before the next race. They seemed confused about the request and would not give me one. I think what John is proposing is a good idea for local races but at the Divisional and National Events Bill's recommendation would be the way to go.
