Save missmatched slicks?
« on: August 05, 2016, 05:17:51 AM »
I have a pair of M&H Racemaster slicks that has about 1/2" - 3/4" differensen in circumference.
I have tried all possible ways of stretching the smallest tire. High pressure over long time, high pressure out in the sun. It helps for the moment but they always end up with the same difference after some hours.
Is there any way of saving these slicks? Or should I consider them lost and give them to the race track to use for preparation?

How fast are you running???  has it affected the handling of the car? how old are they? any cracks in the sidewall? were they the same when you bought them new?
Larger tire will squat a little more--- 1/2" is nothing, 3/4" about the max.

I'm running 8.31 sec 162mph.
I have to compensate with the steering wheel in high speeds with these tires. The front tires are worn from compensating.
They are 2 years old. No cracks what I can see.
Ther was fairly equal when I bought them. But after first race they where off by about 1" in circumference.

Swap them side to side and see if it changes, if not and you have to compinsate the same as before , its the car and not the tires

I was told by a Hoosier rep that stretching a tire only works when the tire is new and once it has been broken in you can't really change it with over inflating it !

I have switched back to my old slicks and all the compensating is gone. It runs straight as an arrow.
So the problem is/was the slicks.
If the tires can't be fixed, is there some other classes/cars that is less sensitive to dirrerances in tire circumference?
Can some one have use for them or is track prep the only thing left?
