Grease
Yeah, I am from the south--any further south and I would have been a bloody penguin.

Plain old wheel bearing grease, the tan/honey color, never the moly or red syn type as they can seperate and leak

it is, sorry can't figure out who you are Oldboy ?

Car got there late Friday night, broke some clips on exhaust stem seals on warm up and had to strip valvetrain on Saturday.  Found out wheelie bar didn't work, too much articulation and too high.  Car also wouldn't idle under 2500rpm.  Went home Sat night welded up the bar, made brackets etc.  Sunday, first pass, chute fell off at the hit, dragged the chute.  Second pass, low gear launch, broke the wheelie bar wheel hitting it too hard, top end got scary and bounced around got maybe  a foot of air under the car, bottomed out the chassis, damaged a body panel and possibly cracked the axle case.  Cars now parked until we get time to fix it.

was actually looking forward to seeing Rat Trap and Bradfords run here in the UK.  Worked so hard on the car, I didn't see another car go down the track all weekend. :'(

Valve seals????

yep comp cams valve stem seal which have a stainless clip retaining them.  Lash was too tight on first fire up, found a broken clip and recovered the piece.  Had to assume others were broken.  Stripped all 16 springs and found a further 4 cracked ready to break loose.  I'm guessing you don't run them.

Nope---not nessasary.  For as little as we run, done right , the guides dont wear out, and if by chance a micro drip of oil gets between the guide and stem--how could that be a bad thing

Hope you manage to get things fixed without too much more trouble, the car looks really sharp.
I don't think we've ever met Phil, I built a FED way back when I was in the BFRA with Tony Beadle and Ken Cooper, then got made redundant and had to give up. Up to this year been a regular at Shakey and the Pod but have just moved from South Glos. to Wales, new house, still waiting for the builder to start my garage so I can continue putting together my own rail as retirement project. Cheers.
