Tube splice length
« on: July 09, 2016, 11:32:05 AM »
When spicing two tubes of the same diameter with an inside tube sleeve is there a minimum length for the inside tube, I found lots of aircraft info but don't know if that applies to dragsters?
Thanks

Minimum 3" on either side of the joint. Plug welds within 1/2" of the end of interior tube. 1/4" diameter minumum. I make the plug weld holes a little bigger, I like to see the interior tube after I weld it.

You should also split the inner sleeve so that it expands and takes up any slop between the 2  that you are splicing together

Split one side and spread it out?

Because the tubing is under tension anyway it will expand on its own
