wheels, screws and liners

(1/2) > >>

tdracer:
I am looking at taking the Beadlocks and wide tires off my FED.

I want to use a old style slotted mag(Ansen?) and a smaller 11.5 or 12" wide tire.  My concern is the wheel rotating on the tire.  The car 60' foots in the 1.0's, its just over 1800lbs.

I don't want to use rim screws, is their an inner liner available that i could use? (15" diameter wheels).

Should i just go tubeless and not worry about it?

Any other idea's?

Thanks

generally machined aluminum wheels hold the tire better then the spun rims along with higher air pressure new tire design likes now. Since you are running tubeless, spinning the tube and ripping out the fill valve has been eliminated, you can experiment running without screws, just paint a witness line from the tire to the wheel rim and check for movement.
Ran cast wheels for years with just 5 screws per side w/ 1650# car running 7.0's  also I prefer to run a 10" wheel for a 12"  wide tire as it squares up on the burnout and evenly heats up the tire and contact patch on the track

digster:
If you decide to try screwless be sure to mount without tire soap or bead grease.
Some door car racers in my area use Aquanet hairspray for bead seating and no screws.

Thanks for the replies, i think maybe going with the 5 screws just to be on the safer side might be the plan.

I'll keep researching liners to see if that's an option.

Thanks

dreracecar:
since the intro of beadlocks, tire companys are not making liners that much except for nascar and Hoosier makes a 16" for big tires,
Expence-weight-and the chance of pressure equalizing (and blowing out the tire gauge--opps) are the things that steer me away from them at our level
