Nostalgia Drag Racing League Features Old School Action In 2013
by Mike Snow on February 8, 2013

Is there still a place for old hot rods in the technology-driven sport that is drag racing today? We’re talking old-school, front-engine dragsters and classic door slammers. Should they end up as relics, simply to be admired and not driven? I’m of the opinion that museums are for fancy pictures and many of these cars can get a second chance of life.

Lucky for me—and for all the nostalgia racing fans out there—the Nostalgia Drag Racing League (NDRL) whole-heartedly agrees with showcasing grandpa’s old ride. And who wouldn’t agree that a seven-second, front engine dragster isn’t art in motion?

Whether you’re old-school or new-school, one thing that’s set drag racing apart from other sports is the wide variety of personalities and technology that can all find the same home right on the track. That may be why the NDRL included some spectacular nostalgia cars last year and is gearing up to for the same success in 2013. This year they have put together a five race NDRL-IAM (International Association of Machinists) Championship Series schedule at some great venues.

Each of these events promises to be a standout, with the season opener held at the Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky. with the NHRA Sports Nationals. The NDRL will also be affiliated with the NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion (at Beech Bend) and the Blue Suede Cruise (at Norwalk). The Route 66 Classic (at Joliet) is another event where fans get to see a night of nostalgia match racing in which a select group of NDRL racers will be featured. These are just a few of the major national nostalgia events that tend to draw thousands of hot rodders and spectators alike, all eager for a chance to watch the race cars of yesteryear. These races don’t disappoint. To find out more about the NDRL, visit www.nostalgiadragleague.com.
