Officials from the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum presented by Automobile Club of Southern California announced today that the New England Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA Insurance will go on hiatus in 2016.
The successful event, which has been held the past three seasons at New England Dragway in Epping, N.H., experienced increased attendance and racer participation.
However, in 2016, the historic track just north of metro Boston will host a major event to celebrate its 50th anniversary around the same date. Also in 2016, the NHRA Motorsports Museum’s California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California will celebrate its 25th anniversary at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif.
Due to these two major milestone races taking place in 2016, the NHRA Motorsports Museum determined it would be best to support the New England Dragway’s event and put the New England Hot Rod Reunion on hold.
“We have certainly enjoyed holding the event at New England Dragway the past three seasons and we’ve seen a positive trend from spectators and the number of race teams who have supported the event,” said Larry Fisher, executive director of the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum. “Given the two major landmark events that will take place in 2016, the NHRA Motorsports Museum has put the New England Hot Rod Reunion on hold for the upcoming season. The Museum will in turn focus on its other two Reunion events, including special plans for the 25th Anniversary of the California Hot Rod Reunion.”
Details for the 25th Anniversary of the California Hot Rod Reunion will be announced in the near future.
I have attended this race three years running, I will truly miss this event.
