7.00 question
« on: September 21, 2015, 11:51:33 AM »
Working on running 7.00 next year . Do you need 2 10 LBS fire bottles to run . My car is injected on Methanol no blower ? I am working on getting weight out of my car so adding another 15 lbs to it makes it a little harder . Thanks Bill

Injected alky only needs 5 lbs. The 20 lb rule is for blower cars only.

Hi there Jon The first thing I plan on doing is to get rid of some more weight . My axles are not lightened and I think it is time for an up grade . An alluminum valve body and pump are on the list and every little thing I can think of to get the weight down . Right now the car weighs 1450 with me in it . I think there is a lot left in the converter . My 60 ft's are around 1.05 to 1.07 and I think they should be better than that . My eighth miles are in the high 4.50's and 7.20 at 183 in the 1/4 . I had thought about a little bit of nitro but after seeing the damage a friend of mine did with only 15 percent I would rather work on other things . To me half the fun of racing is trying to come up with ways to make my car faster !

Have you given Park's a call you know hes the weight shaving guru. How about flywheel the one in Park's catalog looks super lite.Have you gone the ceramic bearing route yet? aluminum bolts where no stress?Aluminum spindles. aluminum spool. My axles are drilled and lightened flanged not sure how much lighter but they seem lite.Rear gear machined. Titainium driveshaft, been scare to check price on one. carring any extra fuel after run?

Didn't you go to real lite battery. If so would moving it back effect balance. If not moving it back ,means  two things can run smaller and less cable. Just few thing that came to mind.

Straight alcohol injected will not cut it in 7.0 you will need a little Nitro.  and the money you spend on all that lightweight stuff you could buy a decent blower setup

If your running 7.20's at the valley just go to another track ,that should pick up a couple of tenths. I used to run 10.20's there on a motorcycle. I went to atco and englishtown and dropped into the 9.80's 9.90's without changing a thing. Unless lebanon valley has changed in ten to 15  years it was a slow track.

Lebanon is much better now than it used to be . Wayne Delmonte has been the track manager for a wile and has really done a nice job with the place ! It is a bout a tenth slower than Epping .

I really don't see why I can't run 7.00 with my setup . I am pretty close now running low 7.20's . I also use an 18 degree head and the cost for an intake would be as much as most of the parts I want to buy .If I was going to run Nitro I would have to change pistons . Too much compression and gas ports on my current pistons . If I can't run 7.00 I will just go back to the 7.50 class!

Not really saying you cant, but you should be able to  run in the 6.90 range in order to compensate for weather conditions  and be able to tune the motor up or down to hit the number without set on kill. J/F guys running those numbers have a lot of money tied up in the engine package. Your friend hurting parts at 15% had serious tuning issues which is not the norm with that low of a percentage

"...Your friend hurting parts at 15% had serious tuning issues which is not the norm with that low of a percentage..."

Hi Bill, with due respect, that was my thinking too. Compared to the exotic Jr Fuel motors, I think (speculate) that tipping the can at 30% would be cheaper on the long run.

I'm very excited with your pursuit for the 7.0s, good luck and keep us posted. From the little I know you, I know you can do it. Although so far I'm pretty much a bench racer, I fully sympathize with your perspective:

"... To me half the fun of racing is trying to come up with ways to make my car faster ! ..."

I really did want to try a little nitro but after seeing what happened to his motor kind of scared me a little . The two things I am worried about are my compression 14.9 and gas ports in my pistons . I guess I could use a thicker head gasket and retard the cam a couple of degree's . I ran this same combination when I was spraying it with nitrous and it went 6.94 but I am still a little nervous about the nitro !I am on the last rebuild for this set of pistons so I could see doing it then and get the right piston  and ring package .
