parks on car battery

Just looking at putting a new battery on the dragster for my shift light just curious I see the really cool one Frank builds just wondering about putting 18v to a 12v electronic item I see they use it for a Racepak so I shouldn't have issue but just thinking out loud.

I've been using the one that Frank sells in my car and I really like it. It is small, light and plenty powerful for my needs. Mine runs the transbrake, 2-step, Racepak and the shift light/tach converter. The Racepak records battery voltage and I'm seeing 20V when they are fully charged. Everything listed above works fine at 20V. I have two batteries so that I can swap from run to run or just use one for a back up.

If it's only for a shift light a small 12v YUSA is cheaper

As for using 18v with 12v pieces.No different than using 16v battery in place of 12v.Lots of bracket guys run 16v and only have to change tyhe alternator over.Seems that hooking charger up between rounds is huge problem, then again  most seem to think working on car at track is ridiculous.

We use the tool battery on Mark Vaught's 7.0 car and it runs the Racepack stuff (logger and dash), trans brake and LED taillight. Normally shows 19.9 volts on the dash. We have one on the car, one in the tool tray and one on the charger and usually swap out between qualifying and the race. I mounted it on the front side of the left chute mount plate so it is very easy to get to.
