Don't use muriatic acid
« on: March 29, 2016, 06:23:22 PM »
This is what happened when I used it in my garage when it was raining outside. I used it to remove rust in my rear end housing. When I poured it in it started smoking like crazy so I opened the garage door and turned on my huge fan to blow out the fumes. I finally emptied the acid and washed out the housing. The rear end had the outside just sand blasted. The next morning it was brown and had to have it reblasted. Yesterday I noticed my new headers were rusted. Not to happy.

Similar acids were used to give muzzle loader firearms a stylish brown finish 200 years ago. Your a trend setter with the classic look. :D

Made that mistake many years ago, wanted to paint my floors at the shop and acid washed the concrete to get a good bond. Next day every piece of bare metal had rust.

Similar mistake here when was cleaning water jackets in my SBC block prior filling it. Even the drill chuck rusted. Probably killed few remaining brain cells too.
