Hi Tim & Andrew
First some history. The bottom end was originally built about 10 years ago for an 8ba block that we reversed the inlets and exhaust ports on. We never got the performance we wanted out of that engine and, in the end, the amount of changes to the top of the block meant it become unstable. That motor ran a 6:71 blower with a powerglide. At the same time (2002 through to 2006), we also experimented with (and destroyed) a couple of more traditional blown ford flatheads with 4:71 and powerglide setup.
So this latest Flathead Express FED is based on a french block. The full girdle was made for us by an old racer who has since past away. The crank was machined from the same billet used in top fuel cranks. In the earlier motors, we experimented with various aluminium rods but, in this one, we have gone to Scat steel rods. The roller cam is from crower and uses chrysler rollers. It has a 4:71 and C4 with tranbrake.
I will post more photos and information when there is a moment but we are trying to get the car to its first race meeting this weekend.
