optimum fuel pressure
(1/1)
fuel749:
Is there an optimum fuel pressure to shoot for with my Hilborn pump? Is cavitation or something similar an issue at higher fuel pressures? Any benefit from a gear pump with more pressure? All of this is on Alky by the way.
Spud Miller:
If you could be making 80-120 PSI at the nozzle at the finish line, that would be great. That's about all you'd want to see with a standard (Hilborn/Enderle) type pump. There really isn't a benefit to going a bunch higher than that. The gear pumps don't mind the pressure, but it's not worth the extra cost for one just to run a bit more in my opinion.
Somewhere around 200-230 PSI, standard type nozzles quite flowing in a linear way anyway.
A pump won't cavitate due to high pressure on the outlet side. Mostly cavitation happens due to drawing too much volume through a small or restricted supply side.
