Push throttle
« on: December 28, 2014, 06:02:50 AM »
I have space issues around my throttle pedal and have had a hokey bell crank setup with the normal pull action on the cable.  I looked in the rule book but did not find anything specifying the throttle had to be a pull action.  Only thing I found for sure is you do have to have a throttle return spring.  You have to run a push/pull morse style cable anyways so I was going to run it from the front and push the throttle.  Did I miss something in the rules?  Anyone ever do this for drag racing?  Found some pics of this done on boats.

I never liked a push cable seems to push a little hard then cam over and get easier I looped my morse cable behind the rearend housing  and came up behind the peddle made a tab off the pedal and made it a pull.

Turn the carb around so that the linkage is on the right hand side.

This is what I do. If your throttle pedal is mounted up off the floor a bit, a lever off the bottom portion of the pedal makes a nice clean pull throttle. If not, do what Ricci32 suggested and loop the cable around the housing and mount it to the top of the pedal.

That's how we run ours, like you have mocked up. But you'll need a brace under the cable mount' down to the head or manifold to stop from flexing down when you hit the throttle.

A throttle stop under the pedal is an excellent idea as well.

Thanks for all the reply's, going to stick with my setup I have but maybe redo my bracket with a thicker piece of aluminum so it doesn't flex like mentioned.  I will definitely be doing a new and improved throttle stop for the pedal itself.  I never realized how hard I was pushing on the throttle pedal with the transbrake engaged at the start until I broke my current throttle stop setup.  Adrenaline is awesome!!!
