18V Battery to run Distributor?

(1/2) > >>

tdietz:
I see Neil and Parks offers an 18V battery that is used instead of a larger automotive style battery.  On our car this would be powering our tach light, transbrake and the biggie, our msd distributor.  My question is, will the 18V battery work with a msd Distributor?

Thanks for the help.

Spud Miller:
 Should be fine.

24V would probably kill it however.

tdietz:
Spud, thanks.

By 24V I'm assuming your saying using a 24Volt battery?

Thanks.

dreracecar:
Spud,
look into it first, That 18V is a power tool supply battery and I dont think it carries enough amps to run a MSD ignition, add to that the draw on the transbrake solinoid and you would be pretty much used up by 600'

Spud Miller:

Well crap, I didn't know this was a glorified 'cordless drill' battery.

DRE is right...there's no way that's going to power any ignition beyond idling for a few minutes.
